Hey there everybody! I hope I parked this thread where it should be.

Due to family health issues, I had to let my 1972 C-150L sit for too long (7 years in hanger). "Life" got in the way. Well, the other day my AI found pitting on the crank shaft. Long story short, the shaft will need to be overhauled. Being that it will also need new mag kit, wheels, possibility of one jug overhaul, and a paint job....the total estimate goes beyond the actual market value of the plane. Plus I am needing to upgrade to a 4-place at some point.

I will have to say goodbye to "Tripple Two" forever in most likelihood. How that will be done is still up in the air. I might sell it "as-is where-is". I would like to get as much for the plane as I can to help with upgrading to a C-172.

For a non-A&P, like myself, to "part-out" might be more hassle than worth. What type of paperwork is required for each individual thing, like radios, flight instruments, seats, wheel pants, etc?

Let me know what you want for the wheel pants. They are easy to remove and if you sell it as-is, won't affect the salvage value smile
(no paperwork needed).

Ok Mikko, I will have to price them first. The mains are ok and off the bird, the nose wheel is missing the bracket that attaches to the gear and has not been on the bird since '88.

Still need more info from others here whether parting out is worth it. Still also waiting on swap out cost for the O-200 from my AI.

Hi Jeff.

Sorry to hear about your airplane. Also, I hate to see another C-150 bite the dust (if that is what happens). I think if I were in your position, I would probably just sell it "as is, where is." An A&P/AI might buy it and fix it up for sale. Or, a salvage outfit might buy it. I think if you part it out (and I know nothing about the processes, etc.) it might be more trouble than it is worth. Kendel (I think) does some of this and may be able to offer more advice.

Just got a call from my AI. He talked to one of two over-haulers for the O-200 and said $8,000 - $10,000 and that does not include anything else - not even the shaft - which is $5,000 new. AI would take 12 hours to do, but would compensate back some in time not charged. Which I thought was nice. Waiting for the other over-hauler to call him back.

We talked about things a good bit after that and I have come to the decision to "Sell As-Is Where Is" if the other estimate is close to this one.

We will probably fire it up, see what else works or doesn't work on the panel side and I will post my results here for others here to get first opportunity. The interior is very nice, all as updated in 2006 with new class and Plane-Plastic on most everything, and new carpet.

It still has 320 hours on it before TBO, so if sold to the right person who can work on it, it would be a great little bird once again.

Paging Kendel McCarley...

What sort of price were you thinking for as-is-where-is?

What I want to do is sell Jeff a mid-time engine for $5000 and get it out of my hangar. Then, he can sell off his old one for $3500.

Odds are high that this is the best option and you'd also end up with an airworthy and flyable plane to sell.

While the old engine is off, spiff up the engine compartment and inside of the cowlings......a clean and spiffy engine compartment is a rarity which adds a lot of pizzazz when a potential buyer sees it.

Add this to your description from 2006 and it sounds like you have a marketable 150??

Just my .02 cents.
