Matt, replaced our loyal but ancient and failing KX-170B nav/com with a Garmin GTR 225 (com only) which has a built-in intercom. Very pleased with it, intercom works great with good adjustment to fit cabin noise levels. Also had permanent headphone jacks installed behind the seats so no headset cables strewn across the laps now. I don't fly IFR and pretty much haven't used a VOR for sectional cross checks in a while so opted to remove all VOR components and save a little weight. If I need to contact FSS the GTR 225 has ability to monitor the ATC frequency so won't miss a call. Mike

That is exactly the change (and reasoning) I am considering for my new little bird. Although my KX-170b works perfectly, I really want the flip-flop ability and do not use the VOR. If I do need VOR for some unexpected reason, my backup handheld has the capability.

May I ask what full cost (radio and installation) ran on the Garmin GTR 225 ?
