Now that we finally know where you are based, welcome again. I typically go to the July 4th fly-in every year at Iowa Falls.

You might want to slip up to Spencer Avionics and let Quint troubleshoot your radio - they do a great job.

thanks fred for the advice. I will definitely make a call to quit at Spencer avionics. I think what ed said is right I think I was receiving and radiating off the coax antenna cable not the antenna. In the meantime I think I will just fly when the weather is severe clear.
I was noticing a static feedback with the radio on.
Oh my gosh there's just so much to do on this plane. it's not very gorgeous but it's mine. at least one thing looking at the age of the interior will scare most people away from stepping foot in it.

Josh,

You're only 136nm from Clinton, IA. Try to attend this year's Clinton Fly-In [cessna150152flyin.org] if your schedule allows. We'd love to meet you and see your plane.

My 1969 150J uses 1/2 qt. every 5 hours. I also am a firm believer in MMO in the fuel every 4th top off. 1/4th pt.in each tank. and a pint in the oil at oil change. Oil is changed every 25 hours. My engine is high time and no oil leaks, has strong compressions and no metal in the filter and the oil samples are normal..

Hi Hung,

Yes I am planning on attending Clinton, but at the moment I have to work the Thursday and Friday. There's a reasonable chance that I can shuffle days. I will come out on the Tuesday and stay Wednesday and I plan on bringing Camping gear and sleeping "under the wing".

BTW, I can see that "Bud" is going to be thirsty for oil... where can you buy phillips 66 by the case??? I thought Oil was changed at 50 hours??? at the rate "bud" goes through oil I think at 50 hours it will have already burned 10 quarts of oil!!

I just ordered the Cessna 150 club book and I hope to lean a lot from it. I'm a hands on kinda guy and I would really like to know if I could find a maintenance manual for the 150J and the O-200 engine. Could anyone help me out?

I think I'm going to go take a drive out to the airport and check on Bud.

Oh,

another question, The Tail light, on a 150J, Is it a threaded type? or a quarter turn type?

It's a quarter-turn bayonet-style connector. Similar to, but not the same as, older stop-lamps on cars.

I use Aeroshell 15W50 and buy it from Airplaneoil.com [airplaneoil.com]. Even with shipping cost (I usually buy 2 cases at a time), it's still cheaper than I can buy locally. They sell Phillips 66 too. Also, check your local yellow pages for Oil Distributor. Sometimes they can special order it for you at no extra charge. I used to buy from a local distributor before they raised their price above the online price.

The 150 comes with an oil screen. It's a pain to check and clean, so most owners replaced it with an oil filter. If your plane has an oil filter, oil change interval can be 50 hrs (but should be at least every 6 months). If the plane has no oil filter and still uses the screen, I think the interval is 25 hrs. My 152 has an oil filter but I only fly 40-50 hrs per year, so I do an oil change every 6 months.

Question about Oil temp...
On my commute to Iowa yesterday the Oil Pressure remained rock steady right in the green range... The Oil temp however failed to rise even a little bit.

During my 3 hr BFR (haven't flown a stiff wing in forever) acceptance flight of N61112 I noticed no rise in oil temp. Outside air temps were between 10 and 30 degrees. Should I be concerned?

Even on a day with OAT at 10 to 30F, the oil temp should rise to the green range after about 20 minutes of cruise. If the oil temp needle didn't move at all, the gauge could be bad, or the temp sender is bad, or there's a broken connection between the sender and the gauge. A 150 owner can tell you exactly where the temp sender is. Remove it from the engine and put it in a pot of boiling water. If the needle doesn't move into the green range, there's a problem.
