My NiCad for my Yaesu Aviator Pilot (VXA-100) will not hold a charge anymore. Since I rarely use it, I am looking at going with an AA battery pack (since I always carry lots of batteries).

Does anyone have one for sale, or know where the cheapest price is. Looks like most I have found are in the $38-42 dollar range.

Oh...and while on the topic, extra cig lighter power cord for a Garmin 296 (or 276 or 396 or maybe even 196...can't remember). Need to buy one of them two since the head seperated and my fix involved too much glue.

PM or email me.

Jeff, have you tried Batteries Plus (if there's one around you) to see if they have an economical replacement or if they can rebuild your ni-cad?

I had a battery rebuilt for my cordless drill recently. $28 and I had been thinking of replacing the whole drill. I saved about $150!!! AND the rebuilt battery is better than when new.

If the battery pack is gone, you might want to try putting a dead short across the terminals to completely discharge the battery. Then put it in the freezer for a couple days. Remove it from the freezer and charge imediately.

This works on cordless tool batteries and others. Who knows it may work for you. You don't have much to loose.

Found an outfit that sells a Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH)for the VXA100 for only $31 plus shipping. MiMH I have found to be a much more preferably type of rechargable.

I will try the discharge/freezer method and maybe even overhaul the NiCD just to have a spare. That would be the best of all worlds.

Thanks guys.

Batteries America (www.batteriesamerica.com [batteriesamerica.com]) has batteries for the VXA-100...Ni-Cd @ 600mAh with spring belt clip for $49; a Ni-MH @ 1200 mAh with clip for $59; and, an ultra Ni-MH @ 1450mAh with clip for $69. I would suggest the Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) any day.

I have used this supplier and they are very good. They have quality batteries for about any handheld you can think of.

Thanks Paul,

I got a NiMH 1000 mah for $31 (plus 8 shipping). Not a bad deal I don't think. Includes the belt clip too and looks just like OEM. Appears to be quality components and decent (1 year) warranty. Plus when I asked a question via email, they responded really quick....I like that.
