Does anyone make a new replacement for the interior overhead light In a 150?

What do you need, Matt? The whole assembly, or just a bulb or part?

Looking for the whole assembly, but could get by with painting my original. The control knobs are missing and the dimmer switch is shot. Just flickers when touched. I had to wire in my own on/off switch just so I could turn it off for daylight operation.

No aftermarket assemblies that I'm aware of. Salvage yards only. Find somebody on Ebay parting out a 150G and send them a message if they don't have the assembly listed. Sometimes, they have parts they haven't listed yet. Of course, it's a crap shoot, as theirs might be as bad as yours.

The rheostat, knobs, and switch are all "standard" parts and can be substituted, if you can find some that fit.

Actually if I had a couple of knobs and a dimmer switch for the overhead light I could make the original work. I just thought it would be easier/cheaper to replace the whole assembly.

Probably not cheaper, by a long shot! Cessna rheostats are very expensive (through Cessna) and used assemblies, if you can find one, are likewise expensive mostly because of that rheostat. There are aftermarket rheostats available on the web for just a few dollars, but you need to know what resistance range and load to buy. It will take some research (start by searching for the Cessna part number, and look for alternate part numbers and specifications in the listings). Knobs are also available on the web, and you might even find them and a rheostat at Radio Shack.

Think of the possibilities and alternative engineering/fabrication:

This is a cool idea, but I'm pretty sure you can't dim an LED panel by varying the voltage like is done with the traditional bulb. Anyway my primary concern is that the 40+ year old contraption is going to flicker out on me when I need it the most. It's the rheostat that is going bad. Anyone know where I can find a new rheostat and how expensive is expensive?

According to the parts manual, the rheostat part number was changed in the middle of the 1967 150G model year.

Early 150G's (prior to serial number 15066623) used p/n 0713247-200. Cessna shows this superseded by AY 0713247-201, at $2,139.30 (Yingling Aviation... not a misprint)!

Late 150G's used XR 6085, superseded by S-1880-2, at $278.85 (also Yingling Aviation).

I haven't found anything on specifications yet, but I'll check my avionics manuals.

I agree that most LED's don't work well on dimmer circuits. They are are either on or off.
