Big big big changes for us...

My dad announced his retirement from the business of rotary engine parts for airplanes, and I know he's thinking the time remaining in his life is limited. It was a major wake-up call for me since I've been blissfully ignorant of the finite opportunity to work with him on an airplane project. I don't want to lose this opportunity.

As a result we will be starting an RV-14 project soon (with the plan to install a 300hp 20B Mazda rotary). To do this we have to downsize. We are starting with selling the 150hp engine project, long range tanks, and LuluBelle. If the price is right we would sell Sassy too, but otherwise we'll hang on to her during RV construction.

This thread will serve as the initial advertisement for LuluBelle. PM me with any questions regarding other stuff. More ads likely coming soon.

I will have more detail and photos on LuluBelle soon (log books are with the A&P finishing the annual)

Cessna 150D. N4171U 3644TT. Approx 700 SMOH, KX170B, Narco AT50, 2007 paint. $17,500

Here are some recent upgrades

Replaced cylinder 2 with overhauled continental cylinder
Overhauled AvStar Marvel Schebler Carb
Ack 406mHz ELT
Rebuilt fuel filler necks
Extended baggage compartment (to match later model 150's)
Stripped, primed and painted interior
2 new comm antennas and coax
Rebuilt rudder pedals
New Macfarlane seat rails
Blu Sky door latch
Niagra window latches
Hooker Harnesses (4 point)
New sealed concord battery

Stuff I know about ...some of which i might get to if it doesn't sell too fast
Replace landing light bulb (in left wing)
Adjust for left wing drop
Flap roller kits (I have the kits from Macfarlane)
DG processes
Engine mounts look a little tired
Panel could use a pretty Bill Rourke makeover.
Seats could use new upholstery.
Hangar rash on vertical stab cap.
Side windows didn't fare well in the interior upgrades - could use replacement.

Those that have been around long enough, know that LuluBelle has been a labor of love for me and I don't take selling her lightly. I've approached every bit of maintenance with the intention to fly her forever. Things taken apart usually went together with new hardware. In 2007 corrosion in the left wing led to a left wing rebuild. I replaced most plastic (wing tips, dorsal fin etc) with fiberglass. All windows were replaced then too. The rest of the airplane was good, but in my paranoia she has had annual corrosion treatments since that time.

Hi Sandy. There was a new guy here the other day looking for a 150. Maybe he will see this thread.

I understand your position. I lost my Dad a few years ago, and I don't regret any of the time I spent with him. Do it while you can.

Being able to spend time and work with your dad on a project is priceless. I know it maybe a hard pill to swallow selling your bird. You gotta do what it takes to make this project happen. Please keep us posted on the project with pics.
Farmed for many years with my dad and even took him on vacations to Cody, Wyo. and the Yellowstone Park showing him where we did our snowmobiling in the winters. It gave me many great memories to cherish.

Thanks guys!

I have to tell you, I am not sad. I am very reflective and fond of the decade I've had with LuluBelle and the many great memories she has given me. Dan is feeling the same about selling Sassy. It actually feels liberating to go down this path shedding the accumulations and embracing the possibilities. We are very ready to take on the challenge ahead. Most of the work we'll do with dad will be on the engine conversion. We are soooooo looking forward to that.

In 1998 My dad wrote an editorial he called "The Lycoming Effect", about a similar feeling he had when he moved to fuel injection....but it didn't stop him from exploring a new path. An interesting commentary on "change". We think you'll like it... Click here [rotaryaviation.com]

Ok so who is ready to buy a really awesome Omni-vision Straight-tail!!!

Sandra,

Facing the same life limits as your Dad, I can say he is blessed to have a daughter such as you with which to spend that time. Enjoy. You will never regret it.

Well, almost anyway:

The one constant in life (change) is at play here and there will come a day when you'll stop to catch your breath and turn around to take a look back at your path in life.

The mile marker being planted at this intersection will stand out as one of the highlights of your life.....trust me.

You'll never regret this. whistle

I do hope someone we know ends up with Lulubelle and she continues to be part of our small family......I truly hope that happens.
