I helped a friend build an RV-6A, and it was a fun and rewarding experience, though very time consuming. I haven't read up on the details of the RV-14, but working on a project like that should be priceless. An RV is a huge step up from a 150. At least you still have Sassy to fly while you're working on your project. We bought the 150G while my friend worked on his plane for a few years.
