Hi everyone,
The door pull strap on my 1967 150G broke on me today. Seen two on ebay for a $50.00 starting bid. Any suggestions on where else I might find one or two door straps?
Thanks, Jack Bentz

I am missing one too. My instructor tried closing a door that popped open in flight. Now I close it by a gentle tug on the window latch and the arm rest.

So if any of you have extras, I'd be interested as well.

Amy & Jack,
Jack: My parts manual doesn't cover the "G" model, but I will bet that the strap is the same as later models. Can someone in the club confirm? See my note to Amy below.

Amy: This strap is called a Handle Assy - Assist in the Cessna Parts Manual and is listed as P/N S1685-3. The part has been superceded by P/N SK150-72, so that is what you would order from Yingling Aviation. These buggers run about $35 new - a real bargain compared to a window latch. shocked.

I can tell you both from experience that tracking down a good used one can be very difficult. I believe they are common with C172's, so they tend to get snatched up quickly. I see them regularly listed on the Texas Air Salvage site (Search for S1685-3), but I was never able to find one in stock.

I finally gave up looking for used and ordered a new one at a rediculous price once shipping kicked in.......only to find out that the new one (SK150-72) is NOT a direct replacement. It requires that my A&P rivet on a new bracket to use. mad

Besides the extra cost of installing, I would have ended up with two different door pull mounting methods, so I fabricated a temporary strap until I determine what I will do.

Try preferred air parts- I've purchased two of them from there.

Hi Everyone,
After a lot of searching I ended up getting the two on e-bay for $51.00. Got a quote from one place wanting $150.00 each.

Got line on handles too.

When I was a mechanic we would remove the handle assemble and have the flexible material between the hardware replaced at an interior shop. New, better material. According to AC43 " an equivilent material can be used" Leather can be substituted if it treated with a FAA Approved fire retardent. We had a very good interior shop at SJC. The use of wool and leather is leagal if done properly.

You might want to use a different method of closing your door Amy. Those window latches can wear out and pull apart with no warning. It happened to me while pulling on it and the window flung open. Luckily it didn't happen while inflight smile

I close my plane's door by sticking my arm through the open window and slam it shut from the outside.
