I sent my carb in for an overhauled exchange. The carb I sent them was a Marvel MS8-4240. I received a MA3SPA (part number 10-4894) in return. They said it was the latest and better. Is this the correct carb for my engine? I have the 0-200-A.
It seems to work ok except the carb heat drops the RPM about 250 turns and then I get tons of black stot on the left side exhaust stack. It's also impossible to lean the misture to get teh 75 RPM rise....it just goes straight to rough. We thought it was valve train related in the past but now wonder if the carb could be part of the problem? Your thoughts?

I think the MS8-4240 carb is for the C75 and C85 Continentals....
The TC Data sheet E-252 for the 0-200 lists the MA3SPA 10-4894 as the correct one. (my plane has had that since new)
I think you may have had the wrong one installed....
Sounds like your mixture is not adjusted properly on your new carb.

Nick, did this happen with your old carb as well? Can you describe the symptoms in more detail?

As Brian said, it is the correct one.

If you are experiencing the same symptoms with your new carb as you did with your old one, clearly it's not a carb issue. I would look closely at your induction tube connector hoses and clamps, maybe even do an induction leak test. It almost sounds like your carb is setup very rich to account for some leakage along the line somewhere.

Nick,
What Paul said is good to be looking for other problems as well. With the incorrect carb installed that is a good indication to give a through look over. Keeping the mags current, within 500 hr inspection can do wonders.
