I'd think that those guy would come up with a better scam. Why not do a less suspect layout with a believable but really cheap price - and make off with the required deposit? Obviously using the ebay buy it now would be more traceable, so they'd have to avoid that. If I were an ebay scammer, I'd say the plane had been subject to several fraudulent buy now clickers and give a price in the ad. I'd create a fake ebay account with the email address that I listed and use a P.O. Box to recieve the cashier check or money order only!

Not that I ever sit around and think of such things!

The guy who is "selling" Garmin 396s on Ebay for $500 (and asking that you contact him at his e-mail address, rather than through Ebay) I've been playing with his head. I send him an e-mail telling him I want to pay cash for the Garmin and I ask him if he can meet me in the town he has his listing in, and I give him an address where I'll meet him with the cash. Prior to telling the jerk I'd like to pay cash, I do a Google search for the address of the local Police Department, and I use that address for the meeting point. I think next time he attempts this Ebay/Garmin scam, I'll also give him the local phone number to the police department in addition to the address...

If we all flooded this guy with requests to meet us at the police department, where we would gladly pay cash for the $500 Garmin 396, maybe this guy will look elsewhere for a dishonest living...

Can you imagine the expression on the scammer's face if shows up at the address you gave him and discovers it's a police station. He might have a few choice words for you

Since he is a scammer, he won't answer e-mails and he won't show up at the police department... He is only looking for a sap to send him $500 for a $3,000+ GPS system.

I wish he would offer to show up at the police department so he could be investigated. The guy is a crook and needs to be locked up.

This guy is likely not in the USA at all. The grammer is off a little in some of his ads and he specifies US Dollars. These are the ear marks of a foreign seller. Also each of his ads (that I've seen) has the name of a different seller and city.

Not a user of e-bay here but I would be willing to bet he is planting adds in as many areas of e-bay he can just to see if he can find an unsuspecting person.

Kent, you're probably right.
