OK, one more....If you had your druthers between two comm only radios....which would you choose? BTW, you're only allowed to choose between these two!

Garmin SL-40 [gulf-coast-avionics.com] vs. Icom A-200 [gulf-coast-avionics.com]

Thanx,

As far as I know Bengie, these two radios are not in the same league. The ICOM is a budget radio that has a good reputation and the Garmin (Apollo) is more expenisve and is, hands down, the slickest comm on the market. Unless money is critical, there's no contest. GARMIN. If I ever need to replace the 2 VALs I have in N150DM the Garmin SL40 will be the 1st choice.

Looks like the Garmin has a built-in two place intercom, but it's also a lot more money. I think I'd be inclined to go with the Icom.... but I've had a couple of Icom VHF radios.I didn't realize Garmin even made comm radios...

Not only does the Garmin have a two place intercom built in, but it also allows you to monitor the active and standby freqs at the same time (preference given to active for obvious reasons.) In many cases this is as good as having two comms, because you can stick with ATC and still pick up ATIS on the standby, etc.

I think I would lean towards the Garmin for all of the reasons stated above.
