The ICOM is a budget radio that has a good reputation and the Garmin (Apollo) is more expenisve and is, hands down, the slickest comm on the market. Unless money is critical, there's no contest. GARMIN. If I ever need to replace the 2 VALs I have in N150DM the Garmin SL40 will be the 1st choice.

I think I'd be inclined to go with the Icom.... but I've had a couple of Icom VHF radios.I didn't realize Garmin even made comm radios... | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 3,062 Visit Put-In-Bay!! In many cases this is as good as having two comms, because you can stick with ATC and still pick up ATIS on the standby, etc. | | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 3,657 Member/2500+posts | Member/2500+posts Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 3,657 | I think I would lean towards the Garmin for all of the reasons stated above.
