Hi Everyone,

I would be grateful if you could note any salvage yards you have enjoyed good dealings with - we are still on our quest for a gear leg.

Thanks

Darryn

Darryn is looking for a LEFT gear leg for a 150H.

That is p/n 0441186-1, which is used on serials 15061533 (The very first "F" model) thru 15069308 (the very last "H" model)

He will insist you knock the step bracket off of it and determine that there is NO corrosion under it.

Thanks Chuck,

That part number is correct! In fact, we would buy both left and right if we could (right is 0441186-2).

Sorry to be pedantic about the corrosion under the step, but we thought we had one, which, when it arrived down under from the USA, was worse than our current one!

Attached is a small photo showing corrosion under the step on the leg that has just arrived from the States.

Thanks again to all for your assistance.

Darryn

Darryn,

Okay, I've done two things, three actually when you count searching through the past threads on this subject. I should have done that earlier to find the part number Chuck mentioned. My fault!

First, my company subscribes to a parts locator much like ILS only less expensive. When I ran the -1 and -2 there were some companies out there that listed stock available. Since today is a holiday they will be closed, so I'll contact them tomorrow for information. If they have web sites and fax numbers, I'll get that info also as that might be the easiest to commuicate with these folks. Once you have an email address, you'll be able to send pictures of the landing gear condition back and forth.

Second, I took a look through the Trade-A-Plane for salvage yards here in the U.S. You might want to browse through some of these web sites to see if anything might catch your fancy. No since in me contacting these people when you can do the same thing. Here goes:
www.wentworthaircraft.com [wentworthaircraft.com]
www.asod.com [asod.com]
www.globalparts.com [globalparts.com]
www.cent-air.com [cent-air.com]
www.dawsonaircraft.com [dawsonaircraft.com]
www.whiteindustries.com [whiteindustries.com]

I can't remember if you said the name of the company in CA that you got the last gear from but if it wasn't O.K. Aircraft Parts, Inc., their email is "okair@sbcglobal.net".

See what you can find on the net and I'll make some phone calls this week. Perhaps we can help you find what you're looking for. As a side note, I have done business with some of the above companies and they seem to be reliable. However, with any used part, you have to be very careful on it's condition. Tagged, inspected, as well as their return policy are just a few things we need to ask about.

As a last resort, and Chuck may be able to help out here, is this landing gear repairable? Can the corrison be eliminated and recoated for protection and repainted? Just curious about our opinions here.

See ya!

Hi Bob,

Thanks so much for your assistance - I really appreciate it!! Our wee aeroplane has been out of the air for three months now and we are starting to give up hope on finding a serviceable leg.

I'll contact the companies you have listed and see how I go. I would really appreciate any further assistance you and other members can offer.

Thanks again.

Darryn

I inquired about repairs, such as blending and re-shotpeening to repair wear at the gear attach saddles, years ago and basically got a no answer to any repairs. The design of the legs, according to Cessna, does not allow any margin for wear, corrosion, etc. They did not overbuild the gear leg in order to keep the weight down, since these are the heaviest single components in the airplane behind the firewall. (the wings are assemblies of smaller components).

Hi Darryn!

Here's what I have so far.

A. Atlanta Air Exchange - fax 770.227.4073
they have both the -1 and -2 for $500 each.
I talked to Randy and he can be reached at
aaesales@bellsouth.net

B. KRN Aviation - fax 480.961.8971
they have the -2's for $675.20. No email
address.

C. Mid-America Airparts - fax 785.242.0028
they have the -1 for $400. Website is
MidAmericaAirparts.com

D. Jay-Tex Aviation - fax 903.572.7004
they have a -1 for $375 and a -2 for $600.
No email address given.

E. IndyAir Services, Inc. - fax 765.349.0505
Web page is www.indyaironline.com. [indyaironline.com.] Dan said
that you two have already spoken before on these
gears. Nice fella and they exchange these things.

Sorry to be so long winded but I hope some of these leads will help you out. In talking with these folks, it appears that this corrison is a common problem on the spring gears. Some are worst than others but they all said their gears are subject to your inspection and that you could return them if you were not completely satisfied. These are also in "as removed condition" with no traceability provided.

Well, good luck and let us know how you come out with your search.
