Wow. Beware the fraud attempts when trying to sell a big dollar item on eBay.

I ended the auction early for N19198 when I found metal in the oil filter and didn't feel the airplane would match the auction description I had posted. The airplane since sold locally and I felt much better about the buyer getting the opportunity to look through the airplane to make an informed decision.

Yesterday, I got the first attempt to steal my eBay account. I received an email saying that my eBay user ID had been changed. The email looked like it had come from eBay and had a link to click to change back my user ID. With a dubious finger, I pressed the link. Sure enough, it took me to a non-eBay site that presented an eBay login. If I had continued, someone would have then had my eBay username and password.

Today, I got a message though eBay asking if I had a duplicate listing for the airplane under a different user ID. I was curious to see if someone had duplicated my listing to try and defraud bidders. The email again looked as if it had come through eBay and had the button to respond, which would again require a login. The email, like any message concerning an eBay auction sent through eBay, included the auction listing and showed the message sender as the current high bidder. I went directly to eBay and checked my messages to find I had not received one. The auction ID shown in the email I got was to my old, canceled auction. The message sender had never bid on the auction. I searched for 150 listings and found there was not a duplicate, past or present.

So, how'd they get my real email address to send me these fake eBay emails? I don't know.

I'm getting tired of fraud attempts on the intertubes.
