The whole process is simple on line to reserve an N number. I went and reserved N150YE as I'm considering changing the number since I do so much with Young Eagles.

I just did not have the energy to take off the old numbers and re-apply the new. I guess I'll let it go.

Amazing a guy would try selling the reserved numbers, but like Gary said, it takes all kinds..

John, that would be a neat N number to have when taking kids flying in the Young Eagles program. They would all want to go up in the YE plane...especially as they would always have a front seat. You should go ahead and use it. Stick on letters/numbers if you can't paint right now.

Fred, have you forgotten about our yearly NAV Canada user fee...around $80 by now.

I'm surprised that one can hold onto an N-number indefinitely without assigning it to an aircraft.

For example, I have "vanity" license plates on some of my cars. When I sold one I didn't want to lose the plate. The MVD said I could hold onto it for up to one year, this to allow time to choose and purchase another vehicle. Then it would have to be registered to that car or given up.

I'm surprised there isn't some similar rule with N-number registrations.

Do you know how long it takes some builders to finish their planes? grin

I have three numbers reserved -

999ED (Thanks, Bill!!! Checks in the mail...)
924ED
924EP

I lucked out with 714RV. Anyone born 14 July with RV for initials or building an RV-## might want it.

I'm open!

Those #s listed were just generic, why pay extra. What's in an N#. My plane has its original N#, and planes of its vintage have their N# derived from the ser#. Why change it, it helps your plane keep its lineage and identity.

Same reasons people upgrade their panels and interior or paint scheme.
To personalize it and make it their own.

Yup! At a whole lot less money then these other reasons! crazy

N66023 shows damage history. N999ED or N407WJ do not. whistle

The "five years" apparently doesn't apply if the airplane was exported. Hollister's 185 was sold to a Canadian in 2009. I was able to reserve the number, N7559Q in May of this year.

It will go on my Wag-a-Bond.
