I want to put the Aeroflash Strobe kit from Spruce on my bird. The ridiculous problem at the moment is that if you buy the kit, it does not come with the nav light cover with a hole in it for the new strobe light bulb. I have the original grimes unit with single nav lite and a plain cover.

My bird is a 71 with the standard droop tip.

Cessna wants 272.00$ for the part. Most salvage places DO NOT HAVE THEM. If they do they want 200-225$ for EACH one.

Anyone know where I might find one for a reasonable price? If I cant get one at a better price Im going to go without.

Could you cut the hole for the strobe with a Dremel tool in the plain ones you have?

Would THESE [chiefaircraft.com] be suitable?

That's what we did when installing Whelen strobes on my plane. See attachments. The Whelen kit has a paper template to mark where to cut the opening.

Thanx, Hung. i just relayed the message, as they're both back in hangar jail at the moment. Jim may ride around the corner to Spruce, just to see if they have a Whelen kit in stock in order to make a copy of the paper template.

Bruce, close but no cigar. Jim's later model droop tips have a dedicated metal cover that's slightly different than the one you referenced, as they look like the one in Hung's first photo.

Good suggestion, anyway!

Bruce, those won't work on the droop wingtips. Those are made to modify "surface mount" teardrop nav lights. There are two styles of droop wingtip nav lights. The early style used a short nav light cover that isn't long enough to mount strobes inside. The later version came with or without strobes. The covers are hard to find at a reasonable price with or without the strobe cutout, but the ones without are much less expensive and can be modified. I found mine on eBay. Make sure the rectangular tab isn't missing on the front (see Hung's pic)... it helps hold the nav light lens in place.

By the way... to my knowledge they are the same on ALL Cessna singles with droop tips. They aren't exclusive to 150's/152's.
