Looks like it's got a nice GPS instead. I'd take that over a VOR. The King radio is no slouch either. The Nav antenna still mounted on the tail indicates it had a VOR at one time before the upgrade. Looks like a nice VFR setup that leaves space in the panel for mounting other things, like an engine monitor.

Painted to match arm rests on the door panel indicates someone pampered this bird a little. The Baby Poo Tan color used on the plastic panels is not a Cessna color. That'd be the first thing I'd change with a couple cans of plastic spray paint, unless you need it to hide puke splatters better. Ick.

Condidering that it's a very low time 1976 M (TT 2382 SMOH 516), and the fact that paint looks to be in decent shape, interior is good, has a panel mount Skyforce 111 GPS and radio bendix KY97A...and he's asking only $15,500?! Obviously would need to find a way to check it out in person (difficult to do since I'm in Indy and he's in Waxo, TX)...or do I take a chance and make a move ASAP?

Worst case I see on this airplane is for the bottom end to need repair due to a crusty cam or crank, or perhaps one of the cylinders has started gathering rust. The TSMOH is so low, you could do either the worst case bottom or top overhaul as a repair and dodge the expense of an overhaul. Maybe you're looking at a worst case repair of up to around $4500, if you did none of the work yourself.

I'm thinking that if the worst case were to happen, you'd still be okay given the initial asking price. However, central Texas is not that horrible an environment to keep an airplane (hot and muggy during the summer, but not near the ocean). So, I don't think the worst case is that likely.

Cessnas are not going to drop value any more due to the economy. Other makes can, but Cessnas are still in demand around the world as trainers. The worse the dollar gets, the more attractive they are for export.

I sold a much worse looking plane this last July for $15k, so I'd jump on this if you're shopping. Tickets on AA from IND to DFW are as cheap as $139 each way. Do it.

$154 each way from IND all the way into ACT (Waco). Only $129 from here in TUS to ACT. Quick, buy it before the temptation is too great for me!

Gary Shreve, who is an A&P/IA, lives in Arlington, TX. Not far from Waco. You'll probably see a post from him later.

Brian, why don't you send Gary a private message to introduce yourself and see if he can take a look for you?

I may be able to work out a quicky this weekend... Have plane, will travel. :-)

If Nathan is available, we might even be able to tag team a snatch and grab for ya...at least get it up to DFW.
