Pictures? Although the GA market is depressed now, $15K for a low time later model 150 is a bit lower that what I've seen them sell for...usually a clean 150 with good times on it "usually" starts at $18K and up, depending on nice shiny paint, clean interior and good avionics. Why a dead cyl after only 516 since major? May indicate a poor "shadetree" overhaul. If paint and interior are shot, you have to factor that in eventually....
I found a similar deal near me on Craigslist, and was a bit apprehensive on the low price that was listed. I had a couple A&P buddies look at it, and we couldn't see any reason not to go ahead with a full prebuy. That checked out, and I become the proud owner of a 150L for $13,000.
It has ~4400 hrs, 800SMOH, fairly faded paint, and bad interior. However, it also has dual digital flip flop radios with glideslope, DME, Tanis heater, Skytech starter, spin-on oil filter, etc, and had been very well maintained. I took some risk as it was out of annual and hadn't flown in years, and was definitely being offered "as is-where is", but I am very happy with the purchase. Originally was looking for a Luscombe, but picked this up and joined this great club and have had a blast with it (7 hours this weekend!).
Turns out the seller had owned if to 10 years and was just sick of paying hangar rent, insurance, and annuals for a plane he never used. He added it all up to about $30k he had spent for the 30 or so hours he had flown it! Those were some expensive hours... and he was just looking to get rid of it and not deal with hagglers, etc.
