This is a very useful site for searching aircraft records. I like to surf ebay just to look at the 150"s and see what is listed. When the seller states, "no damage history" I check this out on the website. There is a l971 150L on ebay for sale now with listed "no known damage history". Upon search of the data base for this plane, there was a short field takeoff attempt where the pilot was distracted and the plane hit the ground. The owner stated he didn't know about this until recently when someone else pointed this out, howerver the log books did not support this. It again appears that many circumstances are NOT logged in the log books. Kinda "buyer beware".

I checked out my 152 and a 8E Luscombe I used to own years ago. Both showed " No history ". But, I ordered the records from the FAA about 9 months ago for the luscombe. There was a 337 showing repairs to the landing gear caused by a ground loop. Don't fully trust this web site.

There's a little confusion here, I think!

I believe Bruce was refering to using the Clubs link in the Hangar section for researching aircraft history. The link is actually not to a club server, but to the myairplane.com [myairplane.com] database elsewhere. It is a useful link and I use it a lot. The NTSB link Michael offered above provides only part of the information, and only when an NTSB report was filed. Not all incidents would require a report be filed, and 337's, past registrations, liens, and other information would not be listed on this site. The myairplane.com link searches both NTSB and FAA public record databases when all of the boxes are checked prior to a search. To get all available FAA records on a particular aircraft (does not include NTSB records, if any, from the site above), you need to order the CD, available at http://162.58.35.241/e.gov/ND/airrecordsND.asp

Even after aquiring all available public information, it is still "buyer beware!" There is no guarantee that all repairs (even a complete rebuild after a major accident) are documented anywhere, including the aircrafts own logbooks. Only a pre-buy by an experienced inspector would reveal undocumented damage, and if the repairs are done properly, they may not even be noticeable to the inspector!

The useful website I was thinking of, even though other members listed some other good sites, was this website of the 150-152 club. Thanks Bruce

At that point, why worry? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Sorry, Bruce!

I meant you, not Steven (I fixed the earlier post). I agree with you Kirk. If it's a seamless and undectable repair, it should be exactly as good as new (sometimes better, judging from some of the factory work I've seen!)
