I found a 150-L model that sounds pretty good and I may be interested in buying it. It is located a few miles east of Portland OR. If I get further with buying this plane, I was wondering if anyone could take a look at it and give me their perspective on it? I live Southern Arizona and OR is a long way to go for nothing.

With me being from a dry state, I'm a little concerned with corrosion with a plane from that area?
It has been hangared for the past 10 years.

Thanks,
Dale

Hey Dale...it would depend on what "a few miles East of Portland" is. If it is Troutdale (TTD), there are a couple of club members in that area, one in particular I know who doesn't participate on the board, but I can hook you up with. Bob M. is in Vancouver (across the River) but I can't speak for him on that.

Don't be overly concerned with the Willamette Valley if that is where the plane has been based. I have bought two Oregon birds, one from the actual "coast" and the other from the Valley and neither had significant corrosion issues. I have seen just as bad on birds from Colorado and Montana. All depends really.

Give us a bit more. Oh...if a "few miles east" is Pendleton or there abouts, I might be able to help you.

Jeff,
Thanks. He said the plane is near "The Dalles". I looked on the map and it is about 60 east of Portland. I'm not familar with that area at all. I have never been north of San Francisco.

I have some pictures of the plane, but you know how that goes, sometimes pictures don't tell the whole story.

Well, this is a good news, bad news story then. The Dalles is a climate similar to Arizona believe it or not, except us folks on the "East side of the Mountains" do see a bit of rain in the weather, but humidity is generally low and temps during the summer will exceed 100 degrees. It is somewhat desert like on the East side, so your corrosion concerns are probably pretty well mitigated.

However, without having an airplane right now, I am afraid I am not in a position to run down and take a look for you. If the roads were a bit better, I would run down on the Goldwing for a nice trip, but it has been raining the last few days and before that ice and freezing rain left lots of sand and gravel on the road. Bummer.

Hopefully your post here will generate some additional input.

Dale,
If you could give me the name of the airport and the fellows name and phone number, I have a couple days off and could go take a look for you and take some detailed photos and email them to you. There are two small strips besides The Dalles around there, but its not that far for me. Let me know with a list of your concerns. The weather has been in and out all week and I may even have the chance to fly over. Call the guy before hand because some folks get a little restless when they find out someone is looking for someone else. They think that you are tire-kicking insead of thinning down the herd before choosing. Let me know what you want to do.

Darn it! Wish I had seen this earlier. We drove through The Dalles this morning on the way home from Montana. (I thought of dropping in, Jeff, but did not think you would appreciate it at 6 AM ) If we ever get a break in this weather, (right now the Rogue River is trying to come out of it's banks!) I'll probably spend some time today rebuilding the fuel strainer and replacing the cowl fasteners with all the same kind that also work! Afterwards, I would be more than happy to buzz on up there to check it out. Triple Niner Echo Delta still needs a first cross country run! But, looking at the weather forecast, that is not going to be happening too soon!

Well there you go Bill....by 6 AM I had already been up an hour and a half, did my work-out, had my coffee read the Bible with my wife and was eating breakfast. You could have joined me for some Oatmeal.
