I could be wrong, but I believe there are more airparks in Florida than in any other state. I live on Haller Airpark (7FL4), about 40 miles south of Jacksonville and less than an hour's drive from JAX and 30 miles west of St. Augustine (SGJ). We are in the process of more than doubling the size of the airport property with new homesites, paved roads, proper drainage, and new taxiways. My home is modest, but it's location along the center of the runway makes it prime acreage. We have a 2600' lighted turf runway with 500'+ overruns and it's own irrigation system. New subdivisions with shopping malls and schools, etc. are scheduled to be built all around us. Contracts have been signed with the developers guaranteeing a large buffer zone on all sides of the airport that will be turned into public parks, playgrounds, and common areas with bike and hiking trails, and new roads will give airpark residents easy access to all these new conveniences. Prospective new-home buyers will sign a disclosure notice and agreement about the airports existance. The value of my property has doubled in the last ten years, and is expected to double again during the next ten. I consider "specialty" property such as airpark and waterfront homes to be excellent investments. The damaged economy hasn't seemed to affect specialty prices much, if at all (at least in NE Florida)!
Life is good!
