I just wonder what the heck "other interest" could be worth giving that package up for? How much fun can one person have? I used to own a 67G model. 150 ponies and STOL too would be a hoot.

Many of you may not know what a nice pair of EDO floats are worth, but it's a bunch. This sounds like one heck of a fun machine, equipped for anywhere a pilot could want to take it. Maybe it's over priced, maybe it isn't. Whether or not someone is willing to pony up the cash will determine the answer to that question.

EDO 1650's can easily cost $8,000 to $15,000 depending on condition and rigging. This chap says he has blasted, primed and painted his floats, and if they aren't dented or cracked they are easily worth $12,000. They skis are worth somewhere around $2,500, again, depending on the condition. Add the tail ski and you've easily got $3,000 or more invested.

Yes, but investing for fun and investing for profit are two different things! What we invest in our airplanes that we might better enjoy them does not necessarily translate into improved value to anyone besides ourselves. Painting a 150 in a many-colored day-glo rendition of an exploding fruit-salad might appeal to some few as having increased value, while others depreciate it as needing a complete stripping and return to a factory paint scheme to restore the basic value.

That said, this airplane has several desirable features, and I don't believe anyone could "build" anything similar from a stock 150 and purchase the mods and additional toys for as low as $72,000 total. It is decidedly a limited market, as only someone with similar operational interests and training as the owner would consider the "package deal" at that price, and might even consider it a bargain. For a 150 with these mods and additions and appears to be in as good a condition as this one, I don't think it's too outrageous a price to the right buyer (although maybe on the high end of the market... as perhaps it should be)!

Carl,

Then there's the real cost of this airplane - the cottage on the lake in the nort'woods so you can use the floats and skis.

I don't have that kind of money, so I periodically go to Northwoods Aviation in Cadillac, Michigan where they rent a Super Cub and J-3 on skis in the winter, floats in the summer and wheels in between. I don't even want to think what it would cost to buy one with the skis and floats. (Oh, yeah, and there's a motel on the shore with a nice beach and they let you operate float planes from their dock or beach - so you don't have to buy the vacation cottage.)

Best regards,
Rick
