In case anyone is interested in selling their plane, my recommendation would be to start with our classified section .

About to months ago, my wife and I decided to casually put our plane, N5816G up for sale. "Casually" in the sense that we really don't care if we sell or not. If it sells, fine; if it doesn't sell, that's fine too. We love our plane and it would be difficult to replace.

Anyway, we ran a minimum ad in Trade-A-Plane (three issues, I believe) for the low, low price of $110!. That ad resulted in two $55 phone calls (you do the math).

Someone in the 150/152 club suggested that I place our plane in the free classified section on our site. I wrongly assumed that most members already owned a 150 or 152; my reasoning was, why try marketing our plane to a pool of pilots who already own a 150 or 152? It surprised me to learn that the overwhelming majority of our members don't own a plane (yet).

Long story short, I've received triple the interest from the free ad placed in our classified section than I did from the ad placed in TAP. One (non club member) pilot called on my plane after his teenage son found my plane listed on our webpage.

So if your interested in selling your plane, don't discount the value of our club's classified section. It's very well organized and a real benefit!

mlb2,
I think you are correct. I recently joined this group, because I'm looking for a plane. Actually I had 2 reasons for joining. One was to learn more about the C150/152 and do some research and the other was to look for a plane here. Yes, I know I could have just browsed the classifieds in the background, but I wanted to also ask a few questions in the forum. So far it has worked out well for me, I have learned a couple things. However, I have not bought a plane yet.

So, did you sell your plane? I have looked at your ad several times as it is a great looking plane. But we are so far apart to take just come and look at it (Im in the Phoenix area). Seems like there is not to much decent for sale out here in the Southwest.

Hi Dale:

Haven't sold 16Golf yet, but at least three different people (two club members and one non-member) are interested and doing their "homework".

I'd recommend doing exactly what you're doing. Read-up, ask questions, look around- it's all part of the buying process. The best way to figure out what you're looking for in a plane, is to rule out what you don't like. And timing (availability) and location (of the plane) are big pieces to this buying puzzle. Figure out exactly what it is you're looking for and be prepared to make a buying decision when the right plane comes along. I personally had to make two, twelve hour round trips to PA (I live in MI) to buy my plane. I knew what I was looking for in a 150 and had to drive to PA to find it!

I'm presently in the process of trying to find a Maule M-5 which satisfies my criteria and hence the reason that I'm in no hurry to sell my plane. An M-5 ad that recently appeared in TAP by a clever pilot read: "Please check with your banker, your insurance agent and your wife before calling."

Good advice.

Henry,

Thanks for the tip. This M-5 is running in TAP as well. I called on it and the fabric is in tough shape. In addition, the engine is getting pretty tired.

Please keep me in mind if you hear of anything else.

Thanks,

Mont
