Looks like the previous had cracks being reinforced by duct tape, and the new one is missing those cracks.

What does this "winter front" do?

Is it for increased perfomance?, comfort?, or just cosmetically cool?

I have one. When it's cold enough to really need it, I might just stay home. You remove it above 20F. I will fly down to 0 F, after preheating with or without it. My cabin temps don't seem to be affected at all. But I will admit that new one looks nice on Brenda's plane.
