I was looking to get some door latches and side windows for my Cessna 150. The latch on my passenger door is stuck so the door can't be opened from the outside. I might be able to fix it, but the handles inside are also looking bad and I wouldn't mind changing them on both doors.

Someone is offering me two complete doors for $250 but I don't have a good feel for whether this is a good deal. I could remove the windows with their respective frames and the complete latches and then sell the doors (they are in pretty good shape). The seller claims the window latches are also in demand and hard to get. I would also be keeping the plastic panels of the new doors as I am redoing the interior.

Has anybody here bought and sold any of these parts? What is a good price for the windows, including the frame?

Is the price for the doors reasonable? What would the bare doors without the windows and hardware be worth to resell them?

Here are some doors on ebay [shop.ebay.com] to give you an idea of what folks are asking for them.

Yes, new window latches go for a premium price of over $100 each.

Wow. Some people want close to $100 just for one door hinge. I wonder if they can actually get that much. I guess this is not a bad deal.

Crazy man. I bought a pair of doors in nice shape on ebay a few years ago for $80, plus another $40 shipping. The value of this stuff jumps all over the place.

Just like the USED fuel caps that people pay upwards of $50 for on eBay, when brand new ones from Cessna are around $25 or so.

Henry, no offense, but I gotta ask. Are you sure the door is unlocked? When I bought my plane last year the tab on the inside was stuck and I couldn't lock it. I don't think the previous owner ever locked it. It took some WD-40 and a lot of pulling (with needle nose pliers) to free it up. I can't remember if the door locks in the up position or down. I'm sure someone in the club does. smile

The passenger door lock on my 152 is locked when the tab is in the UP position.

Henry, take the door panel off and see what the problem is.

I decided not to get the doors. I do think the latch in mine is fixable. It just doesn't move right now. The doors offered would have been included with some other parts I needed and I wanted to get a feel of what is reasonable. I wouldn't have used the frame anyhow, as mine are in good shape and I wouldn't want to deal with the paint/polish that doesn't match my plane. After some more inquiries, it turns out one of the doors was dented anyhow.

I'll wait until I take my door apart and look at the latch before deciding what to do.

My doors are servicable but have seen better days. Looks like they may have opened in flight. And, the lock tab on the passenger side won't stay up. I have it pushed up with eletrcial tape so that it's permanently locked -- can only be opened from the inside. If I ever run across good doors for a C-150H, I'll snap them up. Of course -- I'd need to get them painted in the same colors as my recent paint job. I won't be taking them to the place that painted my plane last Summer, though...
