Cessna Prices...1960 vs. 2010 (see attachments)

$7-9,000 vs. $112,000?

Both are for a single-engine-land 2 place airplane with a 100hp motor capable of about 3 hours of flight at 5-7 gph at a cruise of 105-115 mph. (The rest is window dressing.)

What cost $8795 in 1960 would cost $63002.60 in 2009.

I find it interesting they list "remanufactured" gyro instruments being used in the "Inter-City Commuter".

Yeah... but that's still a bit less than half of a new Skycatcher.

Looks like the rule of thumb is about right - half the price is liability insurance... the other half is inflation.

Everything is relative, Mike.

Median family income in 1960 was $5,620. In terms of income distribution in the country, 36.1 percent of families had incomes below $5,000, while 18.9 percent had incomes under $3,000.

The Cessna 150/152 represents one of the best buys in General Aviation today. We may not be the first to arrive, but we get there. With the mogas STC the cost of operation stays manageable for local flights. Bought right, the bird can be obtained to get the private license and sold for about the price paid for it. That said a friend bought a "150" to get his license. After he got his private he bought a RV-6. He refuses to sell the C-150 and flys it as much as the RV-6!

Most of us have had annuals/repairs that ran higher than the prices of our planes where they were new! Ouch!
