As removed from my plane and in great working condition:
*1976 OEM electric quartz clock *12 Volts *Additional adjustable red reminder hands *Sweep second hand *The paint isn't even worn on the knob(s) *Guaranteed to work when you receive it or money back!
I can't say for sure that all electric clocks work the same way but a couple of years ago I tore into a non functioning clock and was a little surprised to find that the clock is really a mechanical clock with the main spring replaced with a solenoid. About every 20 seconds the solenoid activates and winds a little "main Spring". The clock will tick tock for about a minute if the solenoid is not tickled.
The old automotive clocks worked that way. Years ago I had one that quit running. I took it apart and cleaned it, but didn't have a proper lubricant handy. I imagined kerosene might work, being a light petroleum product, and tried that. The clock then worked perfectly on my bench as long as I kept resetting the solenoid by hand. I reassembled it in it's case and reinstalled it in the dash of my car. As soon as I reconnected the electrical feed I heard a loud "POOF"! There was just enough kerosene vapor in the clock's case to provide a near perfect fuel/air mixture... and I had just provided the ignition source!
Oddly enough, I checked the clock in my 152 today, and it is labeled as a Beechcraft clock made by Borg. I still can't tell if it is 14 volt or 28 volt. Borg is hard to pin down since they have had mergers and such over the years.

No damage... but a valuable lesson learned!
