Can someone tell me if there is a site that defines all the various acronyms associated with maintenance on an aircraft. I'm particularly lost with all the stuff regarding engines and overhauls! Every time I think I've got them down, I find a new one! BOH, POH, TOH??????? Argggg....

More common ones are
STOH since top overhaul
SOH or SMOH since major overhaul
TBO time between overhauls
SBOH since bottom overhaul (seen when a top was done and then shortly after, the engine was torn down and the fairly new top was reinstalled on the engine without any further work.)
POH I think this is partial overhaul (meaningless)

Some acronyms can have more than one meaning. I think POH/SPOH sometimes means Since Paint Overhaul (repainted), but usually means Since Prop Overhaul, and of course POH also means Pilot's Operating Handbook! Some acronyms are made up as they go, since they pay for extra letter count in most publications. Where and how it's used in the description is often the only clue! An online dictionary of commonly used acronyms associated with the little Cessna's. Sounds like I need to ask for further clarification when in doubt. However, it's hard to peruse the classifieds when I don't know what they're saying. I appreciate the explanations and will start a list. TBBE is one I hadn't heard before but can relate to since it applies to Harley's as well as Cessnas!

While in the Air Force I organized an annual briefing given to the Army four star Korean Forces Commander. My boss told me to include a list of every acronym in the briefing so that the General could reference it. The briefing was several hours in length and I think my acronym list was over twenty pages long (single spaced: acronym and definition). The Air Force three star had me cut it down to two pages of just the important ones--four star Army generals don't like twenty page documents.
