Hi, all. Been watching this forum for awhile and read back thru a lot of the past postings. I am seriously considering ownership and have all the ducks lined up and ready to go. Been in aviation for a long time in various capacites, but this is my first time in the buyer/owner role. I do have one small problem that leads to a question. The problem is I am not sure how long I will be in my present location due to a "maybe" employment change. I know how much it will cost to tie it down at an FBO on a local non-towered airport (T67 Hicks Field, Ft. Worth, $45/mo.). How reliable is this as an estimate for tie down in other parts of the country? (FBO part not required) I might be able to do better than that later on, but this is the situation for now.

Thanks,
Konrad

Hi Konrad, I've been an owner for a while now and I'm based in Panama City Florida (PFN). My tie down runs $60.00 Mo. plus tax. The other FBO on PFN is $65.00 Mo. plus tax, but things are very expensive here. It a towered airport. I'm sure thar it's cheaper elsewhere but thats what it is here.

Costs of tie-downs and hangars vary a lot, depending on locations. They're most expensive on the East and West Coasts. Much cheaper in the Midwest and less populated areas. Here in Topeka, tie-downs on concrete ramp are free, hangars go from $80 to 150 per month, although there's a long waiting list for hangars.

Hello Konrad:

If you come to the OKC area, there are a couple of airports here that you can tie down for nothing. The more active, close-in airports run about what you're paying now.

Welcome, Konrad.

Great to see that you're an A&P as well as a prospective owner. That makes for a great combination.

I saw on your website that you're a student pilot. Better get your license so your private insurance won't be so much.

I have a tiedown at Arlington that I use as overflow and I pay 45 dollars a month.

Where might you be moving to. Could make the difference whether we steer you towards a 150, 152, 150/150, or just recommend for you to procure your very own F-16.

I'll PM you with my contact information.

As for "where to" - thats the rub for the question. I am not having to leave, I am just not satisfied with what I am doing. No great rush, but I have made some calls. The general way to put it is: aeronautical engineering, prefer Sunbelt or part way up the E / W coasts (me and cold don't mix very well). There are better chances for Palmdale, Ca., or Marietta, Ga. with my current employer.

Hmmm . . . a 150/150 could be fun! Where was that . . . . ah, Midland, you say ? Don't think that extra ponies up front hasn't crossed my mind, followed immediately by "but still student" and "how many extra $$"? Still . . .

Not an F-16 though - I am kinda bored with it and it's F-2 cousin I work on. I walk down between the F-16 fuselage mate and final assembly areas going to lunch at the cafeteria.
