Try as I might I never mastered folding it back up properly so it was useless to me. Great idea though for folks more adept at Rubik's Cubes and the like

On the plus side, without poles, it should pack very small, which would be great for our airplanes. It occurs to me that one of those Self-Erecting Pop Up Tents might be a good idea, we have several tents that work perfectly well, but I hate messing with those bendy fiberglass tent poles. How about something like this: http://camptents.com/SpecPages/PopUpTents/PinnaclePopUpTents/PinnaclePopUpTentXP3033-2.htmThere are also three and four person versions. If you watch the video on the spec page, it does look a little awkward to put away. and it's 3 lbs less! I have there wing covers and like them (some don't- like Flyboy) I also like the engine cover from them. John

Their advertisement of "Hanger in a bag" just isn't so, unless you live in a fair weather climate. Carefully read their warranty, which covers THEM exclusively. I have quickly learned that a company which has a bigger section advertising their warranty then the produce itself says something about that product. Sorry, wouldn't touch this item at half the price. Just my opinion.

Won't make a good base camp because you need to remove it to fly. One minor blow in Clinton and your pegs and tent are flapping in the wind. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 15,884 Likes: 991 Member/15,000 posts | Member/15,000 posts Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 15,884 Likes: 991 | Does that tent have a floor? Didn't look like it did in the pic's.

The newer ones have poles that are extremely easy to set up.

Sure.... you don't wanna put it under the fuel vent. And the plane could catch some wind and that's it. Away ya go. Just for giggles.... lets get a list going of what is wrong with the tent and system and see what we could change on it and improve it to make the tent the ideal (or better) shelter. Just for the sake of argument. I'm not backing the tent or slamming it. I just wanna see what would be done to fix it up so it's more viable. Let's get those creative thoughts goin'!!!! ![[Linked Image from animatedimages.org]](https://www.animatedimages.org/data/media/218/animated-penguin-image-0137.gif) [ animatedimages.org] Imagine a united world. There's no reason it can't be used on the right wing, away from the fuel vent. I'd prefer the entrance facing the fuselage, as shown in a couple of pictures (makes loading/unloading through the passenger side easier, where belongings/supplies are most likely to reside anyway). This also protects the entrance from wind, keeps the tent from "inflating", and presents a more aerodynamic profile to winds from the unprotected directions (sides not facing the fuselage). There is no reason the tent can't simply be disconnected from the wing and left on the ground during any flights. Simply Tuck the entrance under the apex and back "wall", which is then drawn over the tent and it's contents and staked, providing additional protection in your absence.
Improvements? It's a lightweight tent! If it's weatherproof and has a floor that will stay dry, that's all I really need!
During Clinton '06 I used a self supporting tent (A little too large, really) that I set up under the wing. It used collapsable fiberglass rods for support, one of which suffered "green stick" fracture during one of the storms. It was easily repaired with tape. I'm sure my tent is three times as heavy as the one being discussed, and isn't nearly as compact when stored. | | |
