Some love it some don't. We never got along too well. I used it more in the car, but Santa brought a Garmin Nuvi 855, so now is a good time to part.

I originally obtained this in May of '08. I replaced the bracket that holds it on to the yoke mount w/ a sturdier one offered by CV, but I can't seem to find a link to it on their web site. You'll need to run it offa ships power w/ the included USB wire and cigar plug (unless ur flights are < 90 minutes.) Other portable power options to extend usage are of course available.

I'm including everything that originally came w/ it as well as the documentation I've download and printed.

If you want to get daily updates, you'll have to establish an account w/ CV and buy ur own subscription.

Price is $250 and I'll pay UPS gnd shipping to a USA address.

Mark,
Tried to send a PM but it would not go through. I am interested in the unit for my daughter. Send me your address and I will send along a check.

Thanks,

I've had an ATC since last Spring and I love it. It's especially easy to use and offers many great functions and features. It comes with software that's loaded on my computer that constantly checks for updates to the aviation database, to include terrain updates, TFRs, and fuel prices. It's also easy to switch from the aircraft navigation mode to the street navigation mode and back. The only drawback I've found is that the street navigation database (provided by HP) was last updated in March 2008, and I haven't been able to find an update for it.

Ditto Carlos' comments - I've had mine since December of last year. Nice unit - since it has an automotive database, too, I am finding that I use it more often in my car than in the plane, but it works well in both.

Gents, seeking more info on this unit for possible purchase...

I saw Charlie's when he came to visit up in Carlisle - very impressive for the price!

Gents, or ladies....have any of you used it with the IFR approach plates for "back up" on IFR type flights?

-Can you actually read the approach plate? (seems small to me)

-Does the icon for the plane representing your position actually show on the approach plate? In other words, could you "fly" the approach? (using this as a backup to your panel)

Thanks - MM

Yes, Yes, and Yes.

I have had/actively used AnywhereMap products for 8+years. They continually are at the leading edge of applications, which has caused some "teething" issues in the past. Those issues seem to be behind them.

The AnywhereMap/ATC, when tested by any magazine/entity that does not make it's money by selling advertising, always is ranked at the top for funtionality, user friendliness, and value. Control Vision (the parent company who owns AnywhereMap) provides the downloads to any enhancements as soon as they are programmed.

I use mine both for VFR and IFR, including the Pocket Plates application. The plates (if you choose) are "aircraft oriented", in that you can have the aircraft positioned and moving on the plate. The standard "view" is about 1/3 of the plate, and you slide it up or down and magnify it as you wish. Once you get used to it, you realize you don't fly the entire plate all at once anyway, so the partial view is not really an impediment. I do generally print the approach(es) I expect to be using (old school) and take them with me.

I continue to be impressed with their products. My total initial cost and upgrades (hardware and software) over the last 8 years through three interations of GPS's with WX weather has been the same as the cost of a single Garmin 396.

I recommend anyone seriously considering a portable GPS, especially with WX weather, and specifically adding Approach Plates consider the AnywhereMap ATC. Control Vision doesn't spend the money on advertising like Garmin and Bendix King, so will never get the press that those two receive. But most all of their current customers previously owned a Garmin or King unit.

Michael, thanks for a great review, especially about flying them with the approaches. Great info. MM

www.naviextras.com [naviextras.com]

From the AWM forum...

Instructions - Preparation
1. Exit out of ATC Update Center.
2. Remove SD card from ATC.
3. Turn on ATC, unlock, launch HP Navigation/Oasis Program. (Critical)
4. Connect USB cable between PC and ATC.
5. Launch IE browser and jump to www.naviextras.com [naviextras.com]
6. Register with Naviextras (if you have not already) and indicate your device is a HP Ipaq 310.
7. Install Naviextras Toolbox.
8. Launch Naviextras Toolbox and let the Toolbox connect to the device. (Your device may be recognized as a HP Ipaq 316 initially. After maps are installed, the Toolbox may identify your device as a IGo MyWay 8 device. Don't worry about that.)
9. Go to Naviextras's Backup utility and backup the ATC. I will say again - this is essential. Otherwise, you may have a brick.

Instructions - Moving Maps and Installing the Updated Maps
1. Purchase the desired map updates that you want. You will have the option of installing all or a portion of the maps later if you buy a bundle.
2. Download the maps that you purchased.
3. Go to "Transfer my contents" in Naviextras Toolbox; Notice the nnn/NNNN at the bottom of this page - where nnn is the amount of free memory and NNNN is the total memory.
4. Move all maps and points of interests from your device to your PC. Do not delete any files - just move them. This process frees up memory as Naviextras does not overwrite existing maps, points of interest and 3D info. You should end up with ~1700/2000 MB after the maps, poi, et al. Leave the voice files although you can move unneeded languages and voices.
5. Go to Updates and install your maps, poi and 3D files. The files are downloaded first, and then installed. During this time, your device must stay connected to the PC and your PC must stay connected to the Internet This takes 6-12 hours so allocated necessary time.
6. After the updates are installed, jump back to "Transfer my Contents". You must have 946 MB free of 2000 MB. If you do not, then you should consider moving unnecessary country or territory maps off of the device to the PC (until you need them) - such as Canada, US Virgin Islands, Mexico. You should also consider moving POI's by state off of the device and only leaving what you need (and installing them from time to time depending on your travels). The Toolbox will now recognize your device as an IGo MyWay 8 device once the maps are installed.
7. Backup your device again.
8. Disconnect using "Safely Remove" first as Naviextras Toolbox does not do this like AUC.
9. Disconnect and perform a soft reboot on the device.
10. Reinstall the AWM SD card
11. Both HP Oasis and AWM should run fine - provided you left adequate free memory. I have had trouble getting the device to run if all states/countries POI's are installed.
12. If you encounter any issue with AWM, follow CV instructions - starting with the ATC Hotfix.
