I'm tellin' ya mark, Shelby is the ONLY way to go. When he finishes repairing the seat it will be better than new.

You can not go wrong with Shelby and TnWings.

Agreed. I've bought hard-to-locate parts from Dawson before. I like the way they photograph and catalogue their salvage parts, complete with part numbers. Much better than outfits like Wentworth, where you need to email or call them to find out if they have what you need.

I see a few seats at Dawson's from which I might be able to cannibalize the part I need. Dawson's selection of seats looks like a real possiblity. That way, I would not need to ship my broken seat back to Shelby's to be repaired and then have it sent back to me.

I definitly will have Shelby restore my seats some day, but for now, I may settle for a Dawson used seat back, even if it doesn't match color. I cover the seats with slip covers, anyway.

Thanks for the links!

I just ordered a passenger side seat from Dawson for a buck and a quarter, plus $38 shipping. It ain't pretty, but I just need the back, and as I said, I'll cover it with a slip cover.

I'll email Shelby and let him know that I'm not quite ready this year for that grey leather reupholster/restoration.

Mark,

Did you confirm the year from which the seat was removed? I noticed that it is not in the descriptions.

Bill, Dawson's listed the part number as 0400118-88, which corresponds with the parts manual figure 19B for a RH seat assembly for my plane's serial number. The picture looks right, too.

I like the way Dawson lists part number and photo.

The great thing about C150's is that the seats are only ugly as you climb into them. The rest of the flight - they look just fine.

I'm curious, what broke on your seat back and how badly did the seat malfunction?

See the photo in my original post. The left bracket that attaches the seat back to the seat snapped off. Shelby told me that's common for that model seat after 40 years of wear and tear. The entire seat back is essentially one welded frame. You can't replace the bracket without re-welding.

I immediately jolted back about a foot. Fortunately, I was on the ground. In climbout or in IMC, this would not have been fun...
