I've been readin' a bit here and there about replacement taxi/landing lights and came across this persons opinion. If you believe he knows what he's talking about, the info seems quite definitive.

Our club archives had some good stuff too.

This person's opinion appears to be lacking substance!

Just some observations as they applied to my '80 152.

- My landing light is on from takeoff to after landing. On average, each lasts about 40 Hobbs hrs. One burned out after 13 hrs, one lasted 62 hrs.

- My single landing light is mounted in the cowl. The back of the light bulb has a square "bump" that fits into the holder. The holder has three mounting holes drilled at 60 degrees apart. As such, the bulb can be installed with the filament in the horizontal position, or 60 degrees from horizontal, but not exactly vertical.

I just thought it was helpful in deciding if the $75 bulb was any better than the $10 bulb. blush

If you have a 152 and are thinking about buying the Wheelen quartz lamp, be aware that Chief Aircraft has an error in their listing. I'd not want to put a "4509" (12v) lamp in a 152 (28v).
