Al,

I bought one while at the AOPA convention in Philly a couple of years ago. I like it very much. They are comfortable and quiet and also take input from my MP3 player. They are pretty expensive, but I believe they are worth it in the hearing protection alone. I compared them to the 30 3g and did not find the difference enough to warrant the extra $. I believe you will not be sorry.

I have a Lightspeed 15XL that's a couple of years old and it's very effective in noise cancelling. The 20G is even better and I'm sure you'd be very happy with it. No need to go to the 30 and spend the extra money. I'm a BIG believer in Lightspeed products. It's a fantastic company with A+ customer service.

I've got a LightSpeed XL20 and my sons have XL15's. We've never encountered any problems with them and they seem to be great headsets.

I have the older 15XL headset and have loved it. Recently though I seem to have lost the sidetone function on radio transmissions. Oddly, the intercom sidetone works fine. I gave a call to LightSpeed but the tech guy didn't have an immediate feel for the what the problem was and suggested that I send it in and they would check it out and fix it if possible. He also mentioned the 'Trade Up' program - your old 15XL's plus $300 gets you a new pair of Twenty 3G's (http://www.anrheadsets.com/tradeup/default.asp).

I have been seriously thinking of upgrading and now might be a good time. Cell phone capability (ie, poor man's in flight wx) would be nice to have. It would also be nice to be able to call Flight Service when Potomac Clearance loses my ADIZ flight plan . I think I'll do a little net searching this weekend to see what the street prices are.

Just a point out....the headset cannot be the source of your sidetone problem if you consistently hear everything else but the com sidetone. That is somewhere in your bird, not the headset.

I have two pair of 20K's (yes, the old ones) and have never had an issue with them in 6 years now. Nothing....zip...zero... and I can't get my wife to give them up to save her life. Well, at least until I showed her the new "in ear" models that won't mess her hair up. That got her thinking.
