I have found a nice looking 150 L (1972), (N5288Q) for sale and am trying to track the history of it, previous to now. I have been told it came from Florida, but that is where I came to a dead end. I have not seen the logs as yet. If anyone can give me some information on this plane please send me a private message. Thanks for your help.
Bill

You can order from the FAA a CD-ROM that contains all records related to a particular aircraft. It costs $6.25 (was $5 two years ago) and takes around 2 weeks to arrive. Check it out HERE [registry.faa.gov] and HERE [162.58.35.241]

Bill, and you can also go here [ntsb.gov] to check out if the aircraft has been in any reported accidents.

Apparently, the search engine in the Club's database is better. Go to the "Members", "Hangar" section. Sign in using your membership number as ID and zipcode as password. Select "Perform a Document Search For Your Airplane". I can find an FAA incident report for my plane there, but not at the NTSB site.

However, it may not be complete. I got the CD on the airplane I bought last summer and it made no mention of the nose wheel collapse which triggered the tailwheel conversion. It did mention the STC associated with the conversion, but not the incident. It's entirely possible that the incident was not reported.

I went on the Club's Mama file and looked up a 150 that I owned in the late 60s which I had to put in a pea patch and suffered major damage. No mention of that incident, and I did have a prayer session with the FAA GADO at Allentown PA.

Just don't count on the accuracy of those data bases, just check out the logs very carefully, and read between the lines. My airplane shows a propeller repair, with straightning and balancing, but no mention of any engine work. Fortunately, prior to the last major.
