It’s been a hard decision to make but 2673J is for sale.

90% of all my flights are cross country and it seems like every time I take off, I leave the state. Looking at my logs, 2 hours is a short flight for me. With that said, a 3 hour flight with me, my wife, and some baggage is pushing the envelope and I can feel it on climb out. For those of you that know me, I’m not your standard issue FAA pilot of 170 lbs but rather 240lbs. Need facilitates change so I’ve decided to buy a 172. I rented one from my FBO on my last flight and that should have been the plane I bought to begin with. The need to pursue my IFR rating is there and I have been stuck several places due to IFR conditions that have put me in a bind. A 172 is just a better choice for me. The reason I have my own plane is so I would never have to rent so this just doesn’t make sense. I hate like hell to let it go after everything I had done to it but it is what it is. Shelby may just have to do the same to a 172. For those of you that have seen it at Clinton you know it is pretty spectacular and one of the nicest 150”s in the country.

I’ll be listing it on the club Website, Trade-A-Plane, AeroTrader and maybe others. Here are the Specs:

Complete new interior to include; custom molded leather seats, custom panel with Nu-Lite’s, circuit breakers and toggle switches, all new or overhauled instruments, TCAS, Garmin 496 w/XM weather, all new plastic, new carpet, new headliner, new windows, new visors and vents. Complete exterior & interior acid etch with custom Jet-Glo paint. Fuel tanks removed, new sending units installed, new tank straps. Whelen strobes all the way around, Horton STOL kit. For that matter, let’s just say new everything.

This is one of Shelby Ishams finest pieces of work and it shows. No shortcuts were taken, no stone left unturned. See the Website for the complete history of the start to finish restoration. $45k is a bargain and anyone looking for a plane of this nature knows it.

Jeff,

I know how tough this must be for you. Not just from a financial standpoint. Your 73J is what every Cessna 150 owner wishes his airplane looked like. Any knowledgeable potential buyer who has heard of Shelby and Executive Air will know that he is getting an airplane that has been renovated by one of the best in the business.

You're breaking our hearts, Jeff! There are very few Cessna 150 owners who don't wish they have your asking price.

Good luck in your search for a new airplane.

Jeff, I am saddened by the news, but understand -- and your logic makes sense...it will be tough to not see 73J at our NE fly-ins or at Clinton anymore with you at the controls! More importantly, we will miss you if you leave the club! (hope not!)

I have to agree your aircraft is one of the very best 150's I've ever seen anywhere - remarkable inside and out. Someone is going to get very lucky.

If you'd like, make up a flyer, send it to me, and I will help post them at local airports around here for you.

Be sure to inlclude all you listed above and a price with a good phone number. I'd also list all the upgrades you've made and the $$$ invested! Incredible.

Well, I wish you the best of luck selling 73J. I hope a club member buys her and I hope you stay in the club, Jeff!

Warm Regards, Mike Marra

Whoever gets it will become a member even if I have to take care of the first years membership. I just got done placing my Trade-A-Plane ad so hopefully it will show up next week sometime. I've actually started looking for a 172 with a blown engine to start the process over again. You may just see a 172 in the future that looks exactly like my 150 from the paint to interior. In the meantime, I'm considering taking over (temporary) a 1/4 partnership on a Cherokee-6 from a guy in the military deploying soon. It's one hell of a big plane but ends up cheeper then a rental 172. This should give me plenty of time to restore a 172.

Jeff
I wish you two things for christmas:
1) The exact run-out airplane you're looking for laugh
2) And a smooth and easy transaction with the buyer of your super nice 150

I did exactly what you did, refurbished completely my 150/150 and if I had to do it, I would do it again and change nothing.
Let us know when you find the rare bird.

Jeff, good luck on selling your fine bird! On the subject of purchasing a 172, you might consider looking at even a 182 instead, if your gonna go thru the restoration process again, you may find the performance of the 172 down the road to be less than adequate. Just a thought brother! Oh, and buyers beware, I think with all the rubbing Jeff gave that 150 of his I believe he may have removed some of that fresh paint! {just kidding}

172 could be under powered under certain circumstances. Also you can get 182 for darn near the price of 172. But 2 things to remember. The Prop has to inspected every 5 years and its costly (constant speed) and it uses about 12gph. but you cruise around 130, so that sure helps. Otherwise 182 is excellent plane, if I had the money I sure own that bird.

A Cessna 182 might be worth a look. I came close to buying one in early 2007. The performance envelope and mission capability are quite desirable. I often regret not buying the bird. John Frank, of the Cessna Pilots Association, wrote an excellent book on purchasing a 182. Mike Arman's book, Owning, Buying or Flying the Cessna 150/152, along with this organization, were my principal resources when I stated looking for a C-150. Having never seen Jeff's bird, I feel I have missed a real treat! Streaks on the bird after my viewing would have been drool!!
