Cessna P/N 0450515

It's for a 1968 Cessna C-150H

I'd like a new one or overhaul-able used one. I'd prefer 48-inch pitch.

My understanding is that a servicable prop can be re-pitched to 48-inch, so even if yours is not 48-pitch, contact me.

I live in Gilroy, California.

Send me a PM, or reply on this forum, if you have anything I can use. Please include price.

If you end up buying a new one you might try Propeller Man.

I bought a new prop in March. He was the cheapest I found and the only one who had a McCauley in stock.

Thanks, I finally got through to their web site, and have used their e-form to inquire about a prop. Hopefully I'll hear back.

He was very reliable returning phone calls as well as email.

I found a guy in Santa Paula, California (300 miles/4-hour drive for me), who has (he claims) a never used, still in the box McCauley 1A101/DCM 6948. It was manufactured in 1992 (16 years ago.)

He does not have the original propeller log. Is that a problem?

I called him on his cell phone

He wants $2,750. I asked if he would go less, but he seemed intent on his original asking price.

He's placed ads in numerous online aviation publications. The ad below is from Barnstormers.com:
-------------
MCCAULEY 1A101 DCM 6948 • $2,750 • CLEANING OUT THE HANGAR • Mfr'd 2-92, new in box, stored in hangar rafters until now. Illness forces sale. • Contact Bradley A. Babic - SANTA PAULA SKY SERVICES, Friend of Owner - located Santa Paula, CA USA • Telephone: 805.525.2867 . • Posted May 15, 2008 •
-------------
Apparently, the guy also tried to sell it on eBay back in May, and turned down bids for up to $1,025
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/McCauley-fixed-pitch-prop_W0QQitemZ250241412165QQcmdZViewItem
-------------------

I'm thinking of offering a take-it-or-leave-it price of $2,000.

If he insists on the full $2,750, I'd probably just go ahead and get a new one with guarantee, original log book, etc., if I can't find anything else.

I never had a prop log until it was overhauled. Does a fixed pitch prop even come from the factory with a log book?

Most definitely -- with serial number. (How did your plane get annualed without a prop log book?)

My old prop had a logbook that went back to 1968. The prop had been overhauled 10 years ago, and inspected yearly.

I mentioned in an earlier post that there's a guy trying to sell a new in the box, 16-year-old McCauley 1A101/DCM 6948, but no log book (apparently it was lost). My mechanic tells me that, no matter how new and nice it is, we'd still need to send it to a shop to have it checked, and get a logbook started.

Sorry Mark, but I believe that your mechanic is mistaken. A separate prop logbook is NOT required for a fixed pitch propeller. The fixed pitch propeller is considered part of the airframe. It can be serviced as such, and logged in the airframe logbook. It would be perfectly legal to purchase and install the above prop with a mechanic's signature alone.

OK. Maybe that was my mistake. Anyway, let me repeat:

I'm looking for McCauley Prop 1A101/DCM 6948

Cessna P/N 0450515

It's for a 1968 Cessna C-150H

I'd like a new one or overhaul-able used one. I'd prefer 48-inch pitch.

My understanding is that a servicable prop can be re-pitched to 48-inch, so even if yours is not 48-pitch, contact me.
