Well, N6740S is officially sold. While I'm a little sad about it (ok, maybe more than a little sad), she is going to a great home in Canada. I just spent a couple hours down at the airport with the buyer, his wife, and a his best friend. They obviously know more about planes than I do and gave it a thorough inspection. They have restored other planes (including a 172 straight tail that they still have) in the past and they know exactly what they are buying, a nice 150 that needs an overhaul. They'll be putting it in "owner maintenance" and overhauling the engine themselves. That part makes me feel good.
I was getting emails from people, including student pilots, who didn't seem to comprehend the "out of annual, engine needs work" part of the description. They just see a cheap price and think they are going to fly it around and finish training in it as it is.
What bothers me is that they decided the engine wasn't safe to fly home and are going to truck it. When I had it sold last fall before the deficient oil pressure was found, I was working a clause into the deal that I'd be able to put a few more hours on the plane to take my niece and nephews for a last ride
This is working out for the best. Too bad we don't have "owner maintenance" down here.
