I'm looking for a lightweight cover I can use occasionally on overnight trips and fly-in's. It will be in a hanger most of the time. I looked at Bruce’s and Planecover (Planecover the cheapest at $315) and was wondering if anyone knew of some other places. These both look good but appear to be made for permanent use. I need something light weight and cheep. Any suggestions?

Jeff, I bought one on E-bay - lightweight, easy to put on and very inexpensive - about $100. This one pictured is $159 or so, but there are even less expensive ones. I asked what the difference was between the 159 and 100 dollar ones...they said the material, but to me it only looks like the 159 one has better corners - more sturdy material.

I just typed in "Cessna 150" and it was that company that is always advertising for inexpensive aircraft covers.

Here is the e-bay number(Item number: 270223978264) - I bought one of these for about $100 - slightly smaller that this one, and they cut the antenna panels perfectly. I have an ADF antenna and two antennas, so I gave them a photo. I would get another one of these covers when this one wears out or is lost. (see file photo)

I have used it outside and it works just fine, and I am up here in constant snow, ice and wind WX in PA.

Actually, I cannot see or tell the difference between the $100 one I bought and a $3-400 dollar one I almost bought as far as protection to the cockpit area. I have seen some others that cover the flap access panel - those look OK also, but since you are inside, this is overkill and will just slow you down when putting it on and taking it off.

Here is the add on E-bay - best of luck with this. MM

What makes our covers different?

The builders of our windshield cabin covers are pilot as well as an aircraft owners!

Listed below are more reason why our covers are different.

1. Even though the material is windshield friendly, we increase the protection of your windshield with a Matrix lining.

2. Sunforger canvas is a heavy duty canvas that is easy to handle and maintain control in the wind while installing the cover.

3. We install protection on the underside of the belly strap fasteners to protect the paint of the aircraft.

4. Each seam is double sewn with UV resistant thread to maintain strength under stress.

5. Our company was started by a pilot and an owner of an aircraft. Our covers are hand made by the owner and is also current and is active in flying. Our company understands the needs of an aircraft’s surface protection. These covers are designed by pilots as well considering the needs of an aircraft. So when you call and ask questions, you will get the right answer to meet your needs on your aircraft.

6. Our covers are made from Good old fashioned, and reliable marine canvas that is mildew, UV and water resistant with a water column of about 22cm. This allows the cover not to sag and helps evaporate moisture. We have found, that the lighter synthetic materials will sag at different gravity points and act like a wind sail in the wind when trying to install in on your aircraft. No Balloon rides or Parasailing here!!!

7. Things to look for in a cover. When a cover is on an aircraft like the 150-52, there are gravity points such as the door area. A light weight material will have more of a tendicy to sag. This is one reason why a heavy duty canvas is needed.

8. Look for a tight fit at the vent area of the windshield as the cover goes around the glass and wing area and comes back under the wing. Also look for a gap between the top of the door panel and the bottom of the wing. This is an indicator of a sagging door panel.

My plane sits outside. I have the $159 cover mentioned above and am quite happy with it. It is very well built. Good value for the $ IMO. The company was great to deal with.

The $100 model should work fine for your intended use. If it is made from thinner material it should roll up smaller for storage in your baggage compartment.
