This looks like a new 406 ELT,, the price is not as extravagant as others I've seen at $900.

It says "personal ELT"

Which means, what? Would it be acceptable as a replacement for the FAA mandated ELT?

It's interesting, as it looks exactly like the regular ELT that I have mounted in my airplane. It also says this,,

Applicable to all Aviation Uses such as Flying, Gliding, etc.
Harsh/ Robust/ Heavy Duty P-ELT in an enduring composite Emergency Carrying Case. Ultra long lasting Battery Package, up to 78 hours @ -20 deg C, end of life, 10 years useful life time Lithium type, LiMnO2, 4 D-Size.

I've sent them an email to see what I can learn.

I checked the AmeriKing website and others.

This ELT is a Personal ELT, which means you need to manually activate it after a crash. I does not have the g-force switch activation and is not TSO'd for aircraft install. It is not approved as a replacement for the existing ELT nor does it meet the requirements due to not having auto activation.

Hopefully it means that AmeriKing may be getting close to offering a 406 MHz Emergency ELT at a more reasonable price.

Mike.

Thanks Lionel,
I hope it's just as affordable as the PLB.
