OK, I have enquired on the Cessna 152 (Sparrowhawk) that failed to sell on ebay. However, there are two issues I am wondering about.

1. I keep reading in the pervious posts that the Sparrowhawk conversion reduces the TBO from 2400 to 2000 hours. Does anyone know if the STC has that as an actual limitation, or is this Lycoming's recommendation?

2. The seller is firm on $30,000. Yet his Trade-A-Plane ad states $29,900. I just wrote him that if I go for this, I would pay his Trade-A-Plane price. If he dismisses the Tarde-A-Plane price and insists on $30,000, I will porbably walk (to me, that means he may be difficult to deal with). Besides, $100 is $100! Any comments?

Don't sweat the $100, sweat the prebuy inspection. Will he pay for any airworthiness issues your guy finds?

I cannot imagine a seller willing to let $100 queer a $30K deal. If it does, I'd walk too. I recall, in 1984 my Dad special ordered a new car from the Ford dealer, it had a bench front seat, which was extremely unusual for that model (my mother insisted on it, hence the special order). The price was agreeded on in writing, a contract, signed by both parties, and Dad had a Credit Union cashiers check drawn for that amount.

Weeks later the salesman called, the car was in, BUT, it was going to cost..... get this..... TWELVE DOLLARS more than the contract price (of about $10K). Dad told him to take the check or keep the car, the salesman argued, finally gave up, Dad got the car.

As far as TBO goes, any TBO is simply a recommendation, an out liability wise if you will. The only time TBO's are enforceable for GA aircraft is when they are operated part 135 air taxi, part 121, and a few other, for hire situations, none of which you will ever encounter.

The TBO is reduced for a reason, more power means more strain, wear, and tear on everything. It puts the engine more in prospective with the bigger engines. I wouldn't get too concerned about it.

This question had me looking to find where I had read about
the decrease in TBO w/the Sparrowhawk STC. I could not find
anything in the STC about TBO so I went to Lycoming's web
site. What I found was very interesting. It seems that all
0-235's built or rebuilt before June 1986 had a TBO of
2000 hrs. After this date any that had a compression
ratio of 6.75:1 where extended to 2400 hrs
(L2C's? I don't know their compression).
Those with 8.1 or 8.5:1 needed a TOB Extension Kit and MUST
contain 100% GENUINE Lycoming parts.
So, if your engine was field overhauled or you are unsure
if all the parts contained in your engine are GENUINE
Lycoming your TBO is 2000 hrs NOT 2400.

The attachment is a PDF copy of the Lycoming page I found.

Make sure you get him to pay for the new STC face sheets
from Air Modes N.W. that have your name and address on them.
The cost is $35.00 I think.

Well, you asked for comments, Steven. I will second what Greg is saying here. You have an airplane here yet sight unseen. You don't even have a clue of any of it's issues as yet. And you are already quibbling over $100? I would think you would want to inspect, and find out for sure if this is an airplane you actually want before you started arguing! Watching from the outside, I am wondering. Are you really interested in actually buying an airplane, Steven? You seem to be working very hard at finding excuses not to buy an airplane. It appears that your sellers are not the only people being difficult here.
