Does this mean that the motor would need to be overhauled since it hasn't been used. Also, the panel layout, would that pose a problem if you wanted to upgrade to glass in the future. Congratulations on starting your pilot training. I, for one, love the 1965 models...I have one, too. Unless you're a mechanic, I fear that, without a great prebuy inspection, you'll end up spending more on this one than you would if you bought a nice, flyable plane.
As a new pilot, I wouldn't get too worried about transitioning to a glass panel in the future. You'll have specific training for that upgrade. Lot's of people learned to fly in the early Cessna 120/140/150 planes with no problems.
On your question about the motor needing to be overhaulled...condition is everything. Just because it's 6 months out of annual, it shouldn't have any adverse effects. There again, an annual and a good prebuy are definitely in order.

I bought a clean '69 J model in October and am now living the dream. The 150 is great and does everything I want.
I say look for a clean, well cared-for aircraft that is flown regularly and ready to go. Even a creampuff will have things about it that you will want to fix or upgrade, so unless you are an A&P (or chummy with one) or want a project, pay a bit more and get something that you can fly away right now and go forward with your training without delays. You'll be way happier in the long run.
That's just my opinion, of course!

I'm doing my training in a warrior, the nearest school with a 150 is 2hrs away, I know if I have some patience, this fall will open up more $ right now my max would be 15k, if I wait till fall it could possibly, (with wife approval) 35k not saying I would spend that much but maybe in the middle somewhere.
