Noticed this plane for sale on ebay, seems really nice from the pics. Ad states that his reserve is less than $20k

Has anyone who uses the forum ever bought an airplane on eBay? The length of the auctions are rarely more than 7 days, maybe 9 days at the most. How does one manage an inspection of any kind and then have time to bid? Do people buy these without an inspection and then not pay if defects are found? Just curious to know if eBay is a respectable venue for buying an airplane.

Thanks.

Wayne Westerman sold his Cherokee to someone who seen it on ebay. Ebay does generate a lot of veiws for the week that the ad is up.

I don't know if I would buy on ebay. On rare occasions, the seller does the transaction pending a satisfactory pre-buy at the buyers expense, but that seems to be the exception. Most sellers sell as is and either want you to do the pre-buy during the auction time, or they tell you take your business elsewhere. One even told me that he won't accept a prebuy as a condition of sale and asked me not to bid. The other times I inquired about the prebuy, the sellers simply ignored my message. So, buyer beware and know what you are getting into.

You need to look at each auction. Some are not very reasonable, others allow you to win the auction, pay a refundable deposit and give you some many days to do your pre-buy...not much different than Trade-a-Plane that way and maybe better as at least there is consequences (negative feedback) if they renig on the sale.

Others (see my post on the pre-buy question) go with a "fresh annual" and find out the integrity of the annual and AP conducting it was suspect...not good, but that has nothing to do with ebay at all.

I would buy on ebay in a heartbeat if the terms of deposit and inspection were reasonable and it was the right plane.

Why have a reserve price if you're going to say what it is? Just start the bidding price at the least you'll take and go from there.

Sorry, pet peeve of mine. Set a reserve and they'll ask you what it is. I mean you have to pay for the reserve listing and they want it for free.
