I am in Pennsylvania where, I will stay over the weekend to look at the planes in the local area. Here is a list of planes I will be looking at this weekend and I would appreciate any comments, suggestions, ideas or advice from my fellow club members. 1) Trade-A-Plane Listing 1976 Cessna 150M VFR N7574U $18,500 TTAF=3595, SMOH=1670 SMOH seems too high but I am going to look anyway. 2) Trade-A-Plane Listing 1976 Cessna 150M IFR N999JT $24,000 TTAF=7145, SMOH=640 This plane looks pretty nice in the pictures. IFR Certified though Trade-A-Plane does not indicate it 3) Moyer Aviation 1975 Cessna 150M VFR N3429V $19,900 http://www.moyeraviation.com/used.htm S/N 15076501 TTAF=4478, SMOH=574 Zero Time since April 2004 Annual Seller says owner bought the plane to learn to fly but never completed getting his license because he developed ?other interests.? 4) Pilot Market Listing 1978 Cessna 152 VFR N66955 $30,000 http://www.pilotmarket.com/category/Aircraft_For_Sale/Single_Engine_Piston/Cessna152/2644/ TTAF=5814, SMOH=380 Looks good in pictures, New Paint, carpet Seat Covers, Wing Tips, Engine Heater(wont need that in Texas) Thanks again for the benefit of your experience... They are selling that for just 2k less for what I just sold my Skyhawk for. Actually, it's not too high. Assuming the engine will reach TBO, there are 2000 hrs left; at $6/hr, that's worth $12K. A new paint job is worth at least $4K. Subtract those $16K from the asking price, $14K is not bad for the airframe + interior + avionics. Also, asking price is there for bargaining. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 3,062 Visit Put-In-Bay!! Member/2500+posts | Visit Put-In-Bay!! I'll be darn....I didn't think they were that much.

So what should it cost? | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 25,438 Likes: 1004 Member/25,000 posts | Member/25,000 posts Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 25,438 Likes: 1004 | Okay. I see what you all think about a $30,000 152. So what should it cost? I plugged the numbers into Vref at AOPA site, including a $4K added-value for new paint; Vref gave a quote of $32,900. Since Vref's quote is usually on high side, I think the $30,000 asking price is reasonable. Basically, with that plane, you won't have to worry about an overhaul at least in the next 15 years, if you're a typical owner who flies about 100 hrs per year. If you plan on keeping the plane for a long time, that's not a bad deal. If you're not sure how long you'll own it, then buy something with mid-time engine (say 1200 SMOH) and it'll cost you less. | | | | Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 40 Member | Member Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 40 | Hung-- Thanks for the valuation. I need to go learn to do that. All-- I went to see the 1st plane today. 1) Trade-A-Plane Listing 1976 Cessna 150M VFR N7574U $18,500 TTAF=3595, SMOH=1670 SMOH seems too high but I am going to look anyway. Here is what I found: It was out of annual. I can't remember exactly how long. I think less than a year. It was last certified IFR in 1998 so I guess it could possibly work for training. When the owner was flying it, he was using Avgas because he said 100LL has about four times too much lead. (I have no clue.) Anyway, the paint had been touched up but it was flaking quite a bit. There were no hail dings at all. The interior was ok except for some cracked plastic in the panel. One of the VORs was completely self-contained, the other was slaved to a Nav radio. I don't know enough about radios to really comment on them but these looked pretty old. One was a 320 the owner indicated was illegal for anything other than backup. (again, outside my realm of knowledge) All told, the owner was very nice and seemed to be very upfront with the plane's shortcomings. I don't think this is the plane for me because I feel like I would have to overhaul it which, I understand would cost $10K-$12K. Also, I would probably want to paint it which might add $4 or $5K putting the total cost at about $35000. Even at that, I don't think I would be satisfied with the radios and the IFR state which would just add that much more. Since it is out of annual, I guess he can't even fly it to a mechanic at another airport for a pre-purchase inspection. I would not want to do the pre-purchase at the same airport. Is it common for mechanices to travel to a plane to do that sort of thing? More updates on my search tomorrow. I have at least one definate appointment and one tenative. Additionally, I am stopping at every airport and asking the people if there are any 150 or 152 planes for sale. maybe, I will get lucky...
