Ya' know, I have thought about trying to come up with something like this.

We have a friendly little airport here, and a port authority that stores its collective head in odd places. The ASP (Association of Sanderson Pilots) has been working on ways to publicize our airport and aviation in general.

Here in the boondocks, every little town has its various parades in the course of the year. There are three big ones here, Forest Fest, July 4th and Christmas. An unairworthy aircraft converted to a simple parade "float" would be an attention-getter.

All I need is a little more time and a little more money. smile

Previous similar examples (not as well done or as complete) have sold on eBay for much, much more than the current $2,136 bid (reserve not met... 6 days, 9 hours remaining)!

The sad part is, this airplane DOES look restorable! I already have everything it needs! frown

I've seen others as well, this one is very fun! Obviously a lot of work went into the drive system, it does not seem like a hack job, someone took the time to make a nicely integrated powerplant.

We might consider bidding on this one, but I fear it is worth far more than we are willing to pay.

The N number is valid, and still registered to John Taylor. Interesting.

Are you thinking restoration? I read the accident report. I've got serviceable standard wings for it (with minor work), but no vertical stab or rudder (these frequently sell cheap in good condition on eBay). I've got a serviceable nose strut, but I'm not sure if the engine mount on this plane is still useable. I don't see any sign of the firewall damage mentioned in the report. The horizontal stab and fuselage look OK in the pics. Logbooks?

We'll still need an engine! IO-540? grin

Okay! I'd settle for an O-320! wink

We could use my O-200 in a pinch! frown

Whatcha thinkin'?
