The most dangerous phrase I utter when working on a project - "So long as I'm there..."
The most recent example is my '95 Suburban. One of the refrigerant lines for the rear A/C corroded through. Well, have to replace the lines, which involved removing the rear evaporator.
So long as I'm there, might as well replace the rear heater core, too...
...Hmm, the accumulator has never been changed, that's probably due. It's stuck, has to be cut off, now we need a new front evaporator. Which means removing the entire dashboard and steering column.
Well, so long as I'm there... might as well install a remote-start system... and it would be a good time to replace the worn seals on the air vent doors... heck, we can't have just one new heater core, might as well replace the front one, too.
Hmm, the compressor's been making noises, lets replace it as well.
Well, so long as I'm there... having spent so much to replace everything else, might as well spring for a new condensor and change everything that touches refrigerant...
oh, yeah, the horn has been acting flaky, let's replace that, too.
The nice thing about projects? You get to buy new tools. Hmm, it'd be really nice to have an electric vacuum pump that can pull down to the 100 micron level, rather than the pneumatic-venturi pump that can barely pull 28" of vacuum with my air compressor running full blast.
For those interested the attached pictures show the nadir of my project. The last pic shows everything you get when you check off the C69 option code on a Suburban, laid out as it will be installed in the truck.
