Wanchese NC is on Roanoke Island and if the plane was there very long might have a corrosion problem. Just guessing...
Try google mapping Wanchese, NC and you'll see what I mean. | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 18,962 Likes: 3 Member/15,000 posts | Member/15,000 posts Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 18,962 Likes: 3 | I've lived in Florida for over 25 years and have inspected a number of aircraft inside and out from right on the ocean to deep inland in Kentucky, and I find the touted affects of "salt air" to be highly exagerated! There are exceptions both ways, but corrosion is a possible issue on every airplane, and most do have at least some, even if only surface frost or filiform! No assumptions can be made either way based on location alone. If I had $20K or $25K laying around, I would definately be looking more closely at this probable bargain!
Would I look for corrosion? Of course! Would I expect to find it? Not necessarily! | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 3,693 Member/2500+posts | Member/2500+posts Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 3,693 | Corrosion issues can vary greatly on planes even within the same region...heck...even from wing to wing! (speaking from my experience) Just look as carefully and thoroughly as you can!

I wonder why?? | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 18,962 Likes: 3 Member/15,000 posts | Member/15,000 posts Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 18,962 Likes: 3 | | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 38 Member | Member Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 38 | Well Guys this is my first post.....I am th lucky buyer of this little airplane.I sold my pitts and needed something to play in until my RV-8 was complete. It get a little costly to run my companys Cessna 401 and 402 arould for $100 burgers. The Airplane turned out better than i thought. If you know how to look thought paint an interior.....It was there for about 4 years and when the IA bought it he soaked i mean soaked it with corrosion X.IT is a very clean airplane inside and out I have just ordered a new interior for it today...and will be going to paint in Dec.If you dont know about MENA,AR painting is only 2950 for a strip and paint looks like about an 8/10 when you get it but for the price......The best part was when i got there it was a Aerobat 150 and the owner didnt know about it!
