One of our floatplane owners was looking for this, I believe. No bids, closes in 8 hours. Might get relisted. I have no idea if this one is OEM or aftermarket! Cannot be used with the El-Reno or F&M oil filter adapter installed (I'd prefer the filter to the cooler, except as required on floatplanes).

Interesting! And rare!

The cooler itself is indeed the right part number for O-200's, but the mounting is different from shown in the ad when used directly on an O-200 (should bolt on where the screw-on filter El-Reno style adapter goes). One would need to replace the supplied adapter with Continental p/n 4763, forcing removal of their El-Reno filter adapter (I'd keep the filter). P/n 530264 does not appear in the C-150 IPC (p/n 4763 adapter does), but may have been available on special request as a factory option (uncertain).

This is not the same oil cooler found on all factory floatplane installations and offered as an option on landplanes, although both use p/n 4763 adapters and some of the same attaching parts. Either new installation would require field approval as a major mod to the engine's oil system.

The cooler number given is correct per the parts book for a C75-C85-C90 where the cooler was hard mounted to the engine. What Cessna did was use the same 4763 adapter that Continental designed and instead of hard mounting the cooler to it, they installed a plate with fittings to connect hoses to, and then mounted the cooler to the baffle, as seen in the previous Ebay listing. I don't see the adapter in this one, It looks like the cooler, mounted with three studs INLINE with each other, but onto some sort of casting with fittings, probably for hoses. This does not look like the 4763 adapter with a cooler bolted to it. Look at fig 17 of the Continental IPC for their installation.

It would be perfectly legal to install a complete Cessna 150/O-200 oil cooler installation on a 150 of the models for which it was available, either originally or as a Service Kit, with nothing more than a log book entry. Installation on other models would require a field approval I would think.

Models for which it was available! Thanks! I stand corrected! But, would it still be legal to install the Cessna floatplane version on a landplane originally sold without the option (assuming it was an option), with only a logbook entry? In this case, the 150 IPC specifically says floatplane, whether Cessna offered it as a landplane option or not. What would I use as justifying documentation? Is it a separate service kit, or is it part of the complete seaplane kit (which was only available on certain 150 models)? Is service kit information legally available without paying Cessna to send it to me?

I was taught that any modification to oil system operation was a major mod, such as the addition of anything not originally installed, including external filters, or oil coolers, or changing relief valve pressures to be out of spec! Is this incorrect? blush

I did misenterpret the useable on codes from the IPC. P/n 530264 is useable on code A, B, and C, but not D, which would be the O-200 and it's slightly different oil system.

Can't use the Continental C-90 cooler on the O-200.

I'm still not sure how to legally install the Cessna Floatplane version on a landplane, but I know it has been done. When in doubt, I file a form 337! I don't think you can go wrong, that way!
