NTSB Identification: SEA07CA105. The docket is stored in the Docket Management System (DMS). Please contact Records Management Division 14 CFR Part 91: General Aviation Accident occurred Wednesday, April 18, 2007 in Shawnee, OK Probable Cause Approval Date: 6/27/2007 Aircraft: Cessna 150E, registration: N6251T Injuries: 1 Uninjured.
The pilot reported that while descending through approximately 2,300 feet mean sea level, about 4.5 miles from his destination airport, the airplane experienced a total loss of engine power. The pilot stated that he began gliding toward the runway, but about 1.75 miles from the runway his altitude became "extremely low." The pilot further reported that due to highway traffic and housing in the area, he chose to land in a field. The pilot reported that after touching down in an easterly direction the airplane struck a tree with its left wing, resulting in substantial damage to the airplane. The aircraft came to rest in an upright position facing northeast. A Federal Aviation Administration air safety inspector, who traveled to the accident site, reported that neither fuel tank was breached, and with the exception of the unusable fuel, both of the airplane's fuel tanks were void of any fuel.
The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows: The pilot's inadequate inflight decision by failing to refuel while en route, resulting in fuel exhaustion and the loss of power. A factor was the tree.

So, it looks like we got ourselves a straight-tail/Omnivision Cessna needing a left wing and a fuselage (perhaps more). The straight-tail/Omnivision fuselage only existed for two model years (D/E, '64 & '65). '63 and earlier had no back window, and in '66 they went to a larger door and a slant-tail. A wing will be somewhat tough as well - The D/E models used manual flaps, not electric. And the cable routing was different than the earlier models (due to the back window). I'm not sure how much structure in the way of pulley mountings will need to change to convert a later electric-flap wing to a manual-flap model. I hate to say it, but at first glance this aircraft may become a parts donor for lack of suitable repair parts. However, the first few phone calls I would make would be to... He would have better luck and much less work to do (and certainly less expensive in the long run) to buy a complete 150 project that needs an engine, radios, instruments, etc. These are much more plentiful (Barnstormers, Trade-A-Plane, even eBay), than a fuselage and wings for the D/E model. | | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 165 Member/100+posts | Member/100+posts Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 165 | Both wings were damaged one a lot more than the other. The fuse. wing attach points were damaged. Not to long ago (one to three months) he installed new insides; carpet, avonics side panel headliner etc. It came to about $14,000. he had about $28,000 in the hole airplane. He had the fuel transmitter worked on. The person that worked on it did not calibrate it. He uses auto gas from gas cans in his hanger and did not fill up with avgas when he had a chance. Gas gage said 1/4 full. He almost made it back to the airport. Jim | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 574 Member/500+posts | Member/500+posts Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 574 | Who relies on fuel gauges? The only time you EVER trust a fuel gauge is when it says EMPTY!

At least he would have a nice set of avionics and probably a number of other things to put into another plane... I guess the engine and prop are quite possibly good still?
