Dear Jeff - you are a brave man! And I think you are very kind to consider it. If I do get my bird, I will certainly remember you.
I must admit, I had thought in terms of crating it because of the vast distances of water and the short range of the airplane.
What would it cost to ferry a 150 to Norway? Is it really realistic to fly such a small plane over such vast expanses of water? I know these are dumb questions, but you have got to remember I am a total greenhorn who doesn't even have her pilot's license yet (but still bound and determined, and ideally in my own plane. If I were to learn in Norway, there are no Cessna 150s to learn on - the local club uses Tomahawks.)
What would your routing be? Canada/Greenland/Iceland/Norway? I know far too little to even be able to ask intelligent questions on such a matter. And wouldn't it have to be in super duper condition all around to venture such a trip?
The chaps in the local flying club here avoid going over water, even when they are just going to England. They all take a southern route, going down through Denmark and Sweden and making the hop where there is as little water as possible. I shall try to ask what they think...they know about the flying conditions.
I too read the post about the 150 being flown to South Africa, but didn't they need to make all kinds of modifications to be able to have the range? If one were to fly a 150 over, would it need to be an IFR plane? It would certainly need long range tanks, wouldn't it?
So much to learn...but an eager, willing brain. Please be patient with my bloopers and tumbles...Jennifer in Norway
